  1. Hello members , sorry to ramble on here as of lately , I have been making quite a few topics since I'm stuck home with my little one that is sick with the flu. Thank God she is getting better. Anyways , I hear a lot of people moaning over the Security 9's manual safety . I don't like it either since I am a long time Glock owner and I like things as simple as they can be. My question is this : Why do people complain about the Security 9 having a manual safety but they seem to be fine with the LCP II even though it does not have a manual safety ? I think they are almost the same and are both hammer fired . Again , I like guns with no manual safety but I never hear people complain about the LCP II not having one. Am I missing something ?
  2. I believe most of you here know that my tastes run to the Single Action revolver. Seems I've stated something to that effect here. My preferences run to Single Actions with fine adjustable sights, case hardened frames and eye-catching grips. Here are two such revolvers, both in .45 Colt, one a Blackhawk and one a New Frontier: Both of these have the 4 x/8" barrels, 4 5/8" for the Ruger , and 4 3/4" for the Colt. In my opinion, the Colt Accro sight is better of the two, having a flat face and all steel construction, though Ruger does now offer all steel. The Ruger rear sight has a radiused surface that does catch light at times, not as precise as the Colt. As to Colt's Eliason as on current New Frontiers, it overhangs the hammer a trifle too much to suit me, and can catch the thumb when cocking. The wide trigger on the Ruger is much more pleasant to me, as opposed to the narrow trigger of Colts. And (bite my tongue here) I prefer the XR-3RED grip profile of the Ruger to the Colt's plowhandle grip profile. I know, I know, the Colt grip is the grip "to fit every hand" but the Ruger just handles recoil a mite better, and is less likely for the cocked hammer spur to dig into the flesh of the shooting hand. Now here is the same Colt with a .44 Special Ruger Flat Top, even closer to the Colt in size and proportion. This gun is one of the finest Rugers to come out yet, but it incorporates the Colt grip profile. While I do like the smaller frame, I wish they'd have put the XR-3RED grip on it! Bob Wright
  3. Saw in another thread someone talking about a Dan Wesson. This is my pistol pack that I have owned since 1981. I thought I would pull it out of the safe and show it off. It is a model 15-2 in .357. I love this pistol. They are great guns and very accurate.
  4. Long story short, I ended up with a p365. The first 200 rounds or so, it had the failure to return to battery. It happened with both mags and probably 20% of the time. It also failed to lock the slide back on the final round about half the time. When it did fail to return to battery, the lighest touch slid it home. I cleaned it up, smoothed the extractor out, and oiled it up. Shot it over 200 more times and have had no failure to return to battery. The slide still doesnt lock back every time shooting it one handed, but it does lock back about 90% of the time now two-handed. Everyone that has held it pretty much loves it. I've only had one complaint about it being too small actually. The frame is slightly wider than a Glock 43. Just a sliver. I think it feels great with either supplied mag. I'll try a 12 rounder if I ever see one. The trigger is quite nice with a good reset. The trigger feels even better shooting it. It "surprised" me a few times. My Glocks never do that but better triggers do some times. My front sight was dead as they all seem to be. I've already called Sig; the x-ray sights are supposedly on their way to me. I'll report back when I've put more rounds through it. I don't plan on cleaning it between now and then.
  5. I had a Rock Island Armory 1911 GI model a few years ago . It ran good. How are the newer ones running ? Still good or what ? I am specifically asking about the full size GI model in 45acp . I would ask over at 1911 forum but they get a little picky if a gun cost less than $1,000 LOL . Thanks for any information.
  6. Hello everyone, I just got my 50AE back from getting it Cerakoted and installing Hogue G10 Pirhana grips on it. Dave at BAM Customs in Murfreesboro did an awesome job on it
  7. Anyone have one of these? Not a big Kimber fan but I like it..... http://www.kimberamerica.com/camp-guard/
  8. At our church recently, East Side Baptist Church in Memphis, we held a Sportsmans Banquet. The basis of the banquet was for all who wished, to contribute game meat for the banquet. I had venison stew, venison chili, bacon wrapped duck breasts, tossed salad and pecan pie with strawberry cake. A feature of the event was a "pistol match." This utilized a 9mm pistol of some plastic design. A laser device was placed in place of a live round in the chamber. Shooting was at a projected target and firing from three, six, and nine yards back, two rounds each distance. The target projected the target image on the wall, and each "shot" resounded with the sound (sort of) of a shot, and a bullet hole appeared on the projected target for bystanders to see. The pistol had to be racked after each shot. The "prize" was a tin sign of an old S&W advertising sign. I won the pistol match, and took a lot of ribbing the next Sunday morning. Bob Wright
  9. https://www.maxim.com/gear/jesse-james-reveals-gun-for-trump-2018-1 I didn't know Jesse had a Firearms Company now... http://www.jjfu.com/
  10. Finally got to shoot my XD .45 Service today: 20 rounds of PMC Gold Starfire 230 grain SFHP, 100 rounds of Remington bulk pack 230 grain JHP, 64 rounds of mixed 230gr. JHP, and 120 rounds of Blazer 230 grain aluminum case......no FTF or FTE at all!....the 3 dot sight picture is ok but at some point Ill have to get either a fiber optic front or maybe a BigDot front sight......the sights are center of mass at 5 yards.
  11. For some reason I've put off buying a CZ handgun for ages. Finally got around to it...
  12. https://www.popularmechanics.com/military/weapons/a16720630/browning-hi-power-production-ends/ End of an era here. I first saw this legend in 2002. Was the issued sidearm of the Canadian battalion I was working with. If you own one, the gun itself will last into the 22nd century with proper care, but mags maybe hard to come by, so I'd get a few more.
  13. My first handgun was a .45 Colt New Service, and I've had a lot of respect for that caliber ever since. Here, some of my .45s: The .45 Colt round has been around a long, long time. I believe the first cartridges were made by the old Union Metallic Cartridge Co. for Army trials. Soon Frankford Arsenal began production of the .45 Colt round. These were inside primed, copper cased cartridges: Though the .45 Colt round didn't last too long with the Army, as the Army adopted the shorter .45 S&W round shortly after. But the old round was, sort of, resurrected some years later for the Colt New Service M-1909 revolver: Old as it is, the old .45 keeps on truckin'. Bob Wright
  14. My wife was reading the paper tonight about the shootings at schools. One was a girl that took a pistol in her backpack, dropped the backpack, and the gun fired. i didn't think that was supposed to happen. Am i wrong? Does anyone know the type or model of pistol involved?
  15. Yeah, I know, all the gun blogs are claiming that the Sig P365 is the greatest handgun in the history of the universe, no one will ever again buy a Shield or a Glock 43, etc. Two shooters of my acquaintance have already said they are selling their Shields because of the magnificence of the P365. Neither has ever seen or handled one. Corporate news releases and reviews by gun writers are fine, but not authoritative. I'm interested, but I'd like to see one myself before deciding if I want to buy it. So, has anyone here actually seen one? Any stores in Middle TN stocking them? Inquiring minds want to know.... Thanks, Whisper
  16. So both Army guns will fire if dropped, both guns are only 95% and 90% reliable with HP's and only 70% and 60% with ball ammo! The drop fix which Sig did to all MHS pistols before recalling the P320's actually cause the trigger mechanisms to crack in military guns! The gun ejects live ammo with spent ammo! I have never heard of this and don't see how since when empty is ejected the Slide after going forward goes back again to eject live round? Need more info on this since a live round needs to have Slide cycled to eject it! Well i wont get a P320 since it seems the drop safe fixes don't work in long run and cause other issues, i wonder if this might be the end of Sigs P320 line? http://amp.timeinc.net/thedrive/the-war-zone/18047/armys-new-pistols-often-eject-live-rounds-and-dont-work-well-with-regular-bullets?source=dam
  17. Quantico Tactical used to sell S&W in the LEO/Military program. Anyone know who sells S&W firearms to retired military under the S&W LEO/Military program in the Nashville/Clarksville area?
  18. Hi Folks, I've got to fly back to the Peoples Republic of California early tomorrow morning, and I have 2 brand new Glock 19 standard capacity PMAGS I picked up for some recreational activities while on business... don't want to risk a felony importing them into CA(sad story)... so if anyone wants them just reply to this post and I'll tell you where they are (at a hotel near BNA). It's either that or throw them in the garbage. I'd rather they got used up.... Thank you, Mr. M
  19. Just when you thought you’d seen it all, an AR pistol with Shockwave grip. Learned of this from Smoky Mountain Guns & Ammo’s full page sale ad in yesterday’s Sunday paper. Being offered for $799.99. https://fightlite.com/collections/fightlite-raider-pistol
  20. New 10mm pistol, old hat.......
  21. http://www.recoilweb.com/news-of-glocks-19x-pistol-leaked-132572.html Official announcement later this month. Basically a G19 slide on a G17 frame.
  22. What is your favorite handgun of 2017 ? Not the most selling one , not the most innovative , just your favorite and why its your favorite . There seems to be a lot of new pistols coming out and there seems to be no restrictions and no bans on the horizon , knock on wood, so these are kinda neat times in my opinion. The one that is my favorite is the Beretta APX in 9mm. I got it early in the year and it has ran like a well oiled sewing machine. Eats my reloads and factory ammo like candy. It's removable fire control system is very simple and not complicated. It may not look nice but it has proven reliable . Very , very reliable from almost all reviews. So what's your favorite handgun of 2017 and why ?
  23. I picked one up, $1100 locally. I was surprised to see it actually sitting on the shelf, and not taking it home wasn't an option. Handling it, I like the feel of it. Besides being heavy, it is nicely designed from an ergonomic view, feels good in the hand with no contortions needed to operate all controls. The front and backstraps are textured finely and the gun feels smooth in the hand, but when you take a tight firing grip, the checkering helps it stay put. Sights are excellent, and I would only ask for a bit wider rear notch. The front sight appears to fill the notch fully, where I like some light on each side. The front is orange-outlined tritium and the rear has an angled and serrated face, while the front is blunt enough to act as a cocking ledge. Quality of machining is as good as anything I own. Came in a neat fancy cardboard box with 3 mags and a manual. Trigger is good, though not as light as some. Gauges 5.5 pounds on my scale but the extremely short takeup (1/8" or so) and equally short reset make it feel a bit lighter than it actually is. The hinged safety trigger shoe works without a hitch and is unnoticeable while shooting. Mags easily drop free, though they feature stiffer mag springs than anything I've bought lately. It's a chore to get all 15 rounds in and a mag loader's a welcome tool here. Slide release is easy to use and large enough to find and operate in a hurry without being in the way while shooting. I put about 80-90 rounds through it (115gr TMJ reloads at about 130 power factor) and no malfunctions were observed. Recoil is mild compared to a M&P 5" Pro and even a CZ SP01 Shadow. Muzzle rise was minimal and the sight picture quick to reacquire. It seems very comparable to a 9mm Glock or Steyr, though I didn't shoot enough fast strings to really make note of it. It was easy to keep a consistent grip since it doesn't recoil enough to really require a crush grip. It's rare that I pick up a gun that doesn't have some annoying sharp edge or corner that soon stands out, but the H9 doesn't. The mags, though, had sharp corners on the rear of the floorplates that I'm going to round off at some point. Accuracy was good but not "OMG" outstanding. Most firing was at about 10-15 yards and it was easy to keep the shots within a 2" bullseye. I think a lighter trigger will tell the true tale there, combined with shooting from a rest. Point of impact appeared to be right at the top of the front sight, the way I happen to prefer. Perhaps it was shooting a hair to the left, but I'm going to shoot it more before touching the sights. Changes I'd make? I'd like a wider rear notch, as already stated. A pair of slightly more aggressive grips would make me feel better, though maybe not shoot better. I'd take about 1 or 2 pounds off the trigger if it doesn't lighten up within 500 rounds. I'm not in a hurry to do any of this, however, which is high praise in my book. I'm quite pleased with the H9 and I'm really looking forward to spending more time with it at the range. I'm frankly impressed that Hudson managed to deliver a completely new design like this and have it in my hands in what I feel is a record amount of time, without a bunch of teething problems that are glaringly apparent.
  24. I was fondling one of these the other day and it was all I could do to walk out of there without it. I couldn't believe that I was actually even thinking about spending close to $600 for a six shot .22 but I've been thinking about it ever since searching for justification and I think I found it......I really want it !!! My biggest problem is the fact that they have a Single Seven in .327 for the same price, and before someone says it, no I won't buy both .
  25. I’m kicking around the idea of building an AR pistol. I’ll probably just order a complete kit (less lower of course) from PSA. I would like it all to match (finish). Are there any lowers that match the PSA stuff better than others? (Other than PSA lowers) I'll probably try to find a lower locally.
