  1. Just something I noticed here. Canik mags fit and function in a PPQ. So, you can have an eighteen or twenty round PPQ.
  2. I have been getting into .22’s more because I think I will shoot them more, I also have most of what I need in centerfires. After a lot of research I decided on either the 7” Smith & Wesson Model 41 or the Ruger Mark IV Competition model. After advertising in several places, I didn’t find any luck in finding anything used. So I’m about to make a decision on new. This would be a range toy, target gun. It would never be carried in the woods, or anywhere else for that matter. I wouldn’t even need a holster for it. The S&W Model 41 is the Grand Daddy of the rimfires. It has an excellent reputation and although it costs a lot; I could probably get my money back if I decided to sell it. The old ones are bringing (or at least asking) more than new. But this gun is still being made and is available for $1030 plus a transfer new. The reviews I have read by those that have shot both say the Ruger Mark IV Competition is every bit as accurate as the Model 41. It is a highly respected firearm and since Ruger changed the disassembly/assembly issues; it is the one I’m leaning towards. I can buy t for $560 plus a transfer. I love me some Smith & Wesson’s and I have the cash for the 41, but I think by going with the Ruger I will have a high quality target .22 and can use the money left over for the single action cowboy gun I don’t have yet. What say you?

    Girsan MC1911C

Anyone have any experience with these? https://palmettostatearmory.com/eaa-corp-girsan-mc1911c-commander-45-acp-pistol-blk-390070.html
  4. I’ve been wanting to get more formal training and be more proficient with a handgun. I go to the range and shoot and can hit targets, but want to do more Training than just standing and hitting paper. Anyone have a recommendation on who in the hendersonville area does that? I thought about guns and leather, I’ve signed up before but they never called me to come to the classes, kind of put a bad taste in my mouth.
  5. Any good realistic ideas on what it could be ? I'd like to say it would be a very slim compact 45acp like the Shield 45 . But as Glock has done here lately it may be something stupid like a new 43X with a stippled magazine base plate.
  6. Now this is something, tell me what yall think. How is it not a ATF no no? https://stdgun.com/s333-thunderstruck/
  7. Went to the gun show at Lebanon this AM. Bought my better half, a new S&W airweight 38 Special +P. actually I traded my Walther PPQ for it. Carried it home, presented it to her ( complete surprise ). She loved it. Now all I can hear is, " when are we going shooting", LOL. Another satisfied customer! Nice little revolver, fits her well, rubber ? grips.
  8. I just purchased a used Smith and Wesson 3913, in decent condition. It is not the LS, but it is DA/SA. Overall, this is a great little gun, and I think it is worthy of replacing my M&P PC Shield as my carry gun but I want to get the bugs worked out first. I think it needs a little, hopefully minor work and I am hoping someone here might have some quick answers for me. (1) Failure to return to battery It looked like someone did not use it for a while and it needed a clean and lube. I shot it prior to the clean and lube, and I had intermittent failure to return to battery issues where I just had to gently push the slide about 1/8 inch to continue firing. I did a clean and lube with Lucas oil. My BF also thinks the feed ramp may need some smoothing. I took it back to the range after the cleaning, and no more issues with failure to return to battery. I am not sure if the clean/lube was the only problem. I am going to get a new recoil spring. I am hoping that I really do not need to do much with the feed ramp. (2) Take up in Single Action mode The Take up in SA mode is gritty, not smooth, almost feels like it is "hitching". If I shoot and do not let the SA trigger back out, no issues. If I shoot DA, no issues. It is only if I let the trigger take up all the way out before firing in SA mode, that I get that gritty, not smooth feeling. Any ideas of what this might be? Also, the safety feels a little gritty. I am wondering if I just take the Lucas Extreme Duty Contact Cleaner to the trigger assembly and safety, if that will do the trick. I am not sure if I should do this without removing the firing pin, and that looks like quite the project on this gun. Any ideas, feedback, are welcomed.
  9. TGO, wondered if you could help me out with this. I've been looking at used 43's and some advertise as gen 3 and some gen 4. Were there multiple iterations of the 43 and if so what's the difference? Gracias and happy New year.
  10. Rumor has it the debut of a 9mm EZ is slated for the 12th. Any official scuttlebutt?
  11. With Glock's announcement of their new .22, it got me to thinking about understudy guns. Basically, that would be guns that look and feel like full size centerfire defensive guns, but in the much cheaper and easier to shoot .22 caliber. It simply makes for more trigger time with a gun that feels like what you carry. I'm a long time fan of this concept. I've said many times that my S&W Model 18 is the gun that taught me to properly shoot a DA revolver. Its my favorite revolver and goes to the range more than any other gun I own. My favorite carry revolvers are also S&W K-frames. Some years ago I picked up a Ciener Platinum Cup .22 conversion unit for the 1911 at a great price. I became so fond of it that I built up a bare frame to mount it on permanently. A year or so ago I bought a Walther PPK/S .22 and enjoy shooting it. Not too long ago I picked up a LNIB .22 conversion for my Sig P226. Honestly, I've gotten so that I shoot the .22 more than the 9mm. Anybody else have an understudy gun? How do you feel about the idea?
  12. Something that I discovered recently was that, surprisingly despite the smaller size of my hands, the Glock 19 platform that I had carried religiously for nearly 20 years really wasn't the best platform for me. Shocker! What I discovered was that the longer grip length of the Glock 17 not only put the grip's palm swell/hump in a location that fit my hand better, but I also benefited from using the the medium back strap as it gave me more surface area to get my support hand onto. More support hand on the grip itself and not overlapping my dominant hand fingers means more actual contact with the gun and therefore better recoil management, less muzzle rise, and faster split times. My world had basically been turned on its ear. While I still wasn't a fan of the additional length of the 17 for IWB carry, especially with a compensator hanging off the end of it, the Glock model 45 suddenly made a heck of a lot more sense to me than it ever had previously. Consequently, I've started to part ways with most of my Glock 19s and have picked up two G45s as their replacement. The added bonus of course is that the G45's slide is the same length as the G19's, so all of my holsters work just fine with them. This gun is my "pimped out" carry rig for when I'm feeling a little extra sassy and don't mind a little extra bulk on me. I sent the slide off to DP Custom Works and had Doug mill it for an RMR and mill the front top of the slide with extra cocking serrations to make press-checks a little easier. While he had the slide, he re-finished it in a tough black nitride, which looks fantastic and isn't as slick as the factory Gen 5 black nDLC. I added a ZEV Gen 5 curved trigger with their tuned ZEV Pro connector, ZEV suppressor height sights, a Crux Ordnance oversized mag release, a Silencerco threaded barrel, a Parker Mountain Machine comp, and hung one of my 1,000 lumen Surefire X300-UB lights off of it. The whole thing rides very easily in a Squared Away Customs "FOXTROT" outside the waistband holster or a Legacy Firearms Company light-bearing CRONUS inside the waistband holster. As for how it shoots, I've got the dot set for a 10-yard zero and stacking rounds in a cloverleaf within a 1-inch circle at that distance isn't a difficult task for me. ** Edited to Add: These photos were taken with an Agency trigger installed, before I swapped it out for the Zev curved trigger to keep things consistent across all of my Glocks **
  13. I visited the range and put about 250 rounds through the 92X Performance. The trigger measures about 6.5# in DA and 3.3 # in SA. Weight of the gun without a magazine is 2 lbs, 13 oz. The reliability was perfect with both included magazines. I was shooting reloads, 115gr Brazos coated LRN atop 4.6gr Titegroup. Accuracy of this load in this gun was mediocre, about 2" at 15 yards. I didn't have any other ammo with me to test with. I don't know if they had any special accuracy requirements for this gun; I did detect slight movement of the muzzle when the barrel is in battery, so that's not great. Shooting impressions: Sights provided a good picture. I'm going to nitpick the front fiber sight a bit and say that the fiber was placed higher than I like. I'm used to Dawsons, which are easier to align vertically. I found myself looking for the top of the black front sight to get alignment for precise shots, only to find glowing dot there. So I'll probably replace that. The rear sight was easy to adjust, I had to dial it a few clicks up and over to get my hits where I wanted. I disliked the "gas pedal" style takedown lever. It's only large enough to get maybe half the tip of my thumb onto it, and the edges and corner are far too sharp for comfort. I'm going to look into swapping it out for a standard 92 part. I shot most of the time with my thumb underneath it. I also wasn't fond of the slide stop's angled tab. Its proximity to the safety lever and its downward rake of the tab meant it was more difficult to find and hit than it should have been. I'm not really sure why they didn't use a standard 92 part; maybe they were worried that people who ride the safety would accidentally hold it down with the tip of their thumb. The thumb safety was OK: it had a good tension on and off, and the extended "shelf" was easily reached by the thumb, although I would have preferred it to extend further back. Beretta says they will offer 3 different sizes of safety lever, but I haven't been able to find out what they look like yet. The safety did make slide manipulation a bit more of a challenge than I'm used to on 92s. Between the location of the serrations (low on the slide) and the prominent safety levers, it makes grabbing the "sweet spot" more of a challenge -- if you grab too low, your fingers will be blocked by the safety. I'm glad they included forward serrations, they're probably going to see a lot of use on this gun. The frame serrations were a bit of a help, but not what I'd call sharp enough to be really useful, and the slick nickel/tin finish wasn't helpful here. I would skateboard tape over the frontstrap if I were going to do much competing with it... not that such a heavy gun is all that hard to hang onto in 9mm, but I like my grip to be locked in. The built-in mag funnel was well done. No lanyard loop, and it looks like you can get to the mainspring housing pin without taking the grips off. I thought the beavertail might prove to be a problem due to its sharp corners, but that was pretty much a non-issue.
  14. I’ve been playing around with the PTR 9CT and I think I found the set up I like. Want to see what you guys think. Eventually hoping to add a can. -PTR 9CT Pistol -SB Tactical Folding Brace -Trijicon MRO with Geissele Super Precision Mount -Inforce WML -BCM MLOK Handstop Anyone else rockin’ an MP5 Clone platform?
  15. I post this in SHAME and CONCERN about what I did in hopes maybe refresh everyone's safety. BTW, I have a Post similar under the topic on this Forum regarding a Recoil Rod question that I was reviewing when the discharge of my 9MM G2 happened. Just thought might catch more eyes as a separate Topic. It's a bit long presentation. Monday Evening, a member had brought up an issue with a gun (same model as my PT111 G2 9MM). He had noticed his Recoil Rod could be pushed out past the front of the frame when he had the gun broke down for cleaning. I thought that sounds normal to me as the Recoil Rod has to go out the front of the slide when firing the gun to allow the slide to go back. He had in fact said the gun functions OK. Anyway, wanted to verify my thoughts. So, I decided to break my gun down (remove the slide to verify all this). I was at my computer desk. Here is the breakdown procedure for INFO: remove the MAG, check Chamber to make sure no bullet in the chamber (always need to do RULE 1 even though I never keep a bullet in the chamber), then push the slide back about 1/8 inch and release the keeper buttons, let the slide back to normal position (the keeper buttons stay released), then pull the TRIGGER to release the striker (not all guns require that - many do). The Trigger Pull releases the striker and is the final step to pull the slide off the gun (break it down to expose parts for cleaning). THAT REQUIREMENT to pull the TRIGGER is the ONE BIG reason to MAKE SURE the CHAMBER is EMPTY (and in my opinion somewhat a safety issue). BTW, the PT111 has a chamber indicator on it. You can just look at that and know the chamber is empty - I did not do that either. I am not STUPID (dumb) about Rule 1 (gun unloaded) when handling. Do it all the time every time I clean or pick up a gun (except for this incident ). SO Being so SMART about that, what happened??? NOW THE BAD CARELESS PART. The final story is; after breaking the gun down, I verified what the guy saw that you can push the Recoil Rod with your thumb and see it go out the front of the slide. Having verified what I thought, I put the gun back together and put the MAG in and put the gun away (nothing in the Chamber, I never Carry with one in the Chamber). I decided to watch the Recoil Rod come out the front. So, I picked up the gun and manually pushed the slide back, of course it did protrude out the front. Then I released the slide, guess what a round loaded in the Chamber when I released the slide as I had the MAG in. That was the first part of the BAD. Then a bit later, I decided to break the gun down again: Took the MAG out, DID NOT CHECK THE CHAMBER. I guess figured I just had it apart, or just did not think ( VIOLATE RULE 1). Got to the step to Pull TRIGGER (release the striker). Gun went off (loud and scared the crap out of me). Only good thing was that it was pointed in a safe direction due to the way I was sitting and doing the operation (more by accident than by my thoughts). The bullet traveled at a down angle to my left (due to the way I was holding the gun getting ready to remove the slide). The bullet went thru front of a drawer (bottom edge) of another desk, and thru the top back of a lower drawer (top edge). Then thru the back of the desk, thru the wall into a bedroom. It then hit the treadmill in that bedroom (low about 4 inches off the floor and front about 6 inches from the edge) where the heavy part of the tread mill is located. That stopped the bullet. Just to say what could have been- had the gun been level, and a bit further pointed east, it would have went thru a TV, the wall into the adjacent bedroom and out the window of that bedroom. Then who knows what? Killed someone? I was lucky and Needless to say, I was UPSET and still I am still UPSET. My wife (gun hater) was REALLY UPSET, that has been smoothed over to an extent as EVERYONE makes mistakes. ONLY GOOD THING - HOPEFULLY I learned to practice (100 % of the time) something (Rule 1) that I all ready knew and have always practiced.
  16. A Walther PPK/S 22LR for $229.99. Cool! https://palmettostatearmory.com/walther-ppk-s-22-lr-pistol-black-5030300.html?trk_msg=VIPLAS84AQI4H3U54V3DUCP7IC&trk_contact=J0O6F96VK99PH79FM828GOBMF8&trk_sid=5GKTRAC3L610TNEQ89BVDS8K74&utm_source=Listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=https%3a%2f%2fpalmettostatearmory.com%2fwalther-ppk-s-22-lr-pistol-black-5030300.html&utm_campaign=Daily+Deal&utm_content=5%3a00+Email

    Glock 17 Mags

I want to buy a couple of 17 round mags for my Glock 17, which is a Gen 2. Current production mags should work with that Generation, correct?
  18. I’m thinking about a cowboy gun. I’m looking at the New Ruger Vaquero 5.5” .357 (5106) From the picture on their web site it looks like this is the crappy flat blue, like on everything nowadays and not a good high gloss blue. Is that a good assumption to make?
  19. I was really surprised about a week ago when I got the call. I thought they had sold out this years batch. But the lady told me that some people had changed their minds and they still have some. I picked it up last Friday and took it to the range yesterday. Its a 1942 Colt frame with an Ithaca slide. Finish is about 80% with some noticeable wear and scratches. The #1 is painted on the grips. However the bore is perfect. So while it has seen some serious use, its seems to have been well taken care of. While it is a mix master, I noticed that there are no arsenal rebuild marks on it. No, its not as pretty as some of the fresh arsenal rebuilds some folks got. But this gun has been there and done that for 77 years. Its got character. It shoots just like an average military issue 1911. Nothing to brag about, but I was able to keep most of my shots in the black on a 12'X12" target. I attribute that to the small sights and a really heavy trigger. By my gauge the trigger is 8 lbs 12 oz. Which is perfectly normal for a G.I. issue pistol. I've got a set of new springs ordered. I may work on that trigger a little while I have it apart. Haven't really decided yet as I may leave it just like Uncle Sam issued it. Yeah, I'm aware that some of you spoke poorly of the guns and the whole program. But I now own a piece of history. I like it!
  20. Course all ready a lot of info on these two guns on the FORUM, but I thought this a good review and includes accuracy tests at 25 yard range. https://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/2019/11/20/tested-taurus-tx22-g3-pistols/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=insider&utm_campaign=1119
  21. I have a chance to buy a NIB Sig P228. Made in Germany 1994. Includes box, all paperwork and holster. Seller says its been a safe queen and never fired. Asking price is $800. I'm thinking that's a little high. What y'all think is a fair price? Need to know by tomorrow morning or I'll miss my chance.
  22. Holster (phone and pistol) INFO that my son sent ($10 price range). I am not interested, maybe someone is interested. I certainly would not want to buy one without seeing it first and making sure a subcompact would fit in it. Another thing is - it would not be a fast draw and subcompact would be 6 to 8 rounds. All that said, it would be a good concealment if you desire to Carry. Lot of legal issues involved with a Legal Defense of a Self-Defense issue (better meet all the 5 Requirements). There are several models shown on EBAY in conjunction with the link ($ 10 Range). Look at this on eBay Concealed carry waist pack holster for compact 9mm & 380 subcompact pistols guns

    Rural King

If you want a new firearm for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years check out https://www.RKGuns.com They are having a sale on some of their firearms. There is one in Clarksville, Tn.
  24. I got a Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk .44Mag in a trade tonight. A few “Firsts” for me. First Ruger Revolver, First Single action, First .44Mag. I’m pretty much a Smith & Wesson guy and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get onboard with this single action business, or if I’ll even keep this. But this thing is a monster. If I ran out of ammo; I could use it as a club.

    TAURUS G3

Friend sent me this Review of a TAURUS G3. Looks good, but I don't have a NEED at this time, not much into that size gun for carry and not into 9MM for target shooting (AMMO costs too much - ues 22 for targets). Maybe be a want, not need someday. LOL There is a great deal of similarity in the inner workings of the Millennium G2 (my gun), the G2C, and this G3. https://www.full30.com/watch/MDIyNjM4/taurus-g3-pistol-review-taking-it-to-another-level
