You might be a prepper if...

Recommended Posts

You go to a really nice restaurant for your company Christmas dinner, order a bone in ribeye steak and at the end of the meal ask the server for a to-go box so you can take the bone home to your dog.

But, it really goes in a bag of bones in the freezer to make beef stock with.

You might need to work on your game.  A real prepper would have taken everyone else's bones home too... ;)

You might be a prepper if the termite inspector won't look you in the eyes after coming back out from under the crawl space.

I have to keep an eye on mine because he likes to shoot as much as me.

After he went down the first time I made sure to mention to him that he's the only one besides me that's been down there.....he looked even more uncomfortable at that point.

You might be a liberal if you're just getting into prepping............wait, WHAT?

I saw this linked off of Drudge when I got in from work last evening.

It is a definite possibly that this segment of our population may well gain a positive, and more self reliant (leaning towards conservatism), insight by doing this, albeit unintentional. Once you lessen your dependence on "systems" of support, like .gov, you gain more actual freedom, along with the peace of mind inherent in this lifestyle.

Their initial rationale is of course flawed imho, but hopefully the end point of their journey may prove positive for all involved.

A good point brought up is that with Trump being elected some, maybe many in the Prepper Community may have been lulled into a false sense of security. As has been mentioned here on TGO many times and in many ways...Trump's election may only be a brief reprieve...very brief. There is absolutely no reason to ease up or think things will go sunshine and roses...just as there isn't a reason to lock yourself up in a bunker. But it is probably a good time to "buy it cheap and stack it deep" on many levels.

We're seeing unprecedented bargains on items that will improve our future safety and security, and I'm not only talking guns, ammo, and shooting gear. Prepper oriented websites are have incredible sales as well... water filters, LTS foods, power/energy, etc.

As to the OP...You might well be a Prepper if you shop "loss leaders" weekly after inventorying your main pantry (where you've dated and rotated your stores) and make sure you purchase by the case lot when these "loss leaders" match your needs (maintaining 6-12 month supply).

You may not shoot everyday, but I bet you eat every day.  ;)

You might be a prepper if...

Whenever you try a new canned or shelf stable item you reflexively consider 1. How well it would work as part of your food stores, 2. How economical it would be for stocking vs other options, 3. How easily it could be heated/prepared without access to electricity, 4. How 'edible' it would be if there were no option for preparing/heating it, at all. 5. Rather than stocking up on dog food you evaluate these things partly based on the ability to share them with the dog (and you have made the decision ahead of time that not only will you not eat your dog but you will shoot anyone else who attempts to do so - and if things are really dire consider eating THEM, and sharing with the dog, to be a possibility.  6.  Part of the evaluation is also very much how the product impacts your digestive system because toilet paper stocks are limited, not to mention that potable water might be at a premium, intestinal upset can cause dehydration and dehydration kills so you don't want to stock anything that will cause intestinal upset.

You might be a prepper if...

Rather than throwing away that can of food you find on the back of your shelf that has a 'best by' date of two years ago you inspect and then eat it - again, so you will know what impact (if any) it has on you that 'in date' cans do not.  After all, even if you are the type that is more concerned with prepping for possible, short term situations if there were a long term event eventually ALL of your cans would be out of date.  Might as well get confident in eating them after the date, now.
