My Grandpa's Rifle

My brother in CA (moment of silence for the "screwed"- amen) handed off my granddad's rifle. I'm interested in getting some idea of where it came from and what it might be. It has a hunting stock on it and has a 7(?) shot box for the bottom. If anyone needs more PM me and I'll post what's needed.

Thanks all.

I belive Most of them are from India, Ishapore Enfield.

I've little knowledge of SMLE rifles, but I'm guessing that since it's stamped "England" and has a crown proofmark, that it's chambered for 303.

Looks like we won't get to see the entire rifle.

I'm no expert either. From what I can tell, the 7.62 designation is on the strap around the wrist, which doesn't appear to be present on this gun. Seems odd they wouldn't mark the caliber on the barrel, but look like they don't. And yes, the "England" would be a pretty good hint, if I'd noticed that at first. ;)

From what I can see, it looks like an Enfield. The box magazine should hold 10 rounds unless it's been modified or an after market one. Golden State made a bunch of Sporters out of Enfields, but it would be marked on the barrel if they did this Sporterization. Definitely need to be able to see the whole rifle and the wrist area.

Sorry to all, had a cold and lots of work, forgot about this till today.

First, thank you to all and here are additional pics of Pops rifle. I did read that a bunch were converted to hunting rifles with a a sports stock. The rubber on the rear is a weird on. The last pic is a strange Starburst on top of the barrel pre- chamber.
