Press Bullet Pullers... which do you prefer?

Recommended Posts

In my meager year of reloading, I have amassed a small collection of cartridges that I had any doubts about (or simply knew they wouldn't work... you know, like when I'd forget to put a primer in) and would love to pull them apart and try to reuse the projectiles I can.  I'm not really wanting to use the impact puller, but was thinking of getting one of the press and collet pullers.  Which one do you guys like best?

I have the RCBS one, which works ok but it does leave marks on the bullet if you are not careful.  Before that I used the kinetic puller, which I still use if its just one shell that didn't make the cut, they work decently enough and usually no marks left on anything.

Unless you use a heavy crimp, and maybe even then, the kinetic puller should work fine.  I never had an issue with a kinetic puller, even on some rounds that had lacquer sealant, though they took a few more swings to get them loose.  The only reason I got the RCBS puller was that I had a bunch of damaged shells from the range and wanted to salvage the projectiles, otherwise I would still be using my Midway (Now Frankford Arsenal) labeled kinetic puller.

I started out with a kinetic RCBS puller and if your just pulling down a few rounds they are OK. For pulling down a large quantity of anything my cam lock Hornaday is the trick. Those collets for the kinetic ones don't last very good. I'm not sure if the rubber band causes it or the collets themselves wear out.

Read about this one on another forum.  The video makes it look super easy/simple, but a bit pricey.

I've got a FA hammer style puller, it works but it's not a lot of fun.  Not bad for a few, but if you need to pull a bunch, I would look elsewhere.

That would wear me out, as it is my knuckles ache after doing mundane things for a bit.  It will work of course, and may be faster than the kinetic, but for that price you might as well get the RCBS or Hornady one.
