Thermal Imaging

Recommended Posts

So I've got a gift certificate for Optics Planet and have been looking at thermal imaging for awhile now.  Still in the heavy research mode.  Not going to spend over 1K at this time...unless I can find good reason to increase my budget.  That leaves me looking t the lower end of thermal products to be sure.  Just wondering what if any experience everyone has w/ thermal products.

Any input and feedback on products appreciated.  Here's one I'm keeping on the list.

I got this one, the way I figure if I'm looking for something in the dark, I may want to shoot it.

No experience with this product, but I think Optics Planet has great selection and pricing. I also think their website is pretty user friendly. My past experiences at point of sale and delivery exceeded expectations.

The downside is the very limited return window to Optics Planet before it reverts back to the manufacturer; OP is quite responsive advising you on how to contact the mfg'er once they're out of the loop.

Don't do what I did, buy now and end up testing it too late.

Ultimately got a replacement from the mfg'er, no harm no foul.

that makes alot of sense.  Glad I posed the question here.  So are you using an external illuminator?

It has a built in one, works ok close in but I have an IR filter on a surefire that lights up a long ways.

I just went through some of what you are going through.  I was torn between thermal or NV.  I went thermal route because with thermal I can see something sitting still if it is camouflaged.  You do get what you pay for like with anything.  From what I have read if you can't focus it everything "hot" is a blob. THIS guy gives a great review with explanation.

If you decide to go with OP do call and work em hard on price, they deal.
