The end of Wideners as we knew it

Recommended Posts

Wideners no longer sells powder or primers.

Here's a portion of an email reply I got concerning this.

Thank you for reaching out to us at Wideners! Unfortunately, we have not been offering powder or primers for the past couple of months. We continued to face higher costs to comply with regulations around the storage, sale, and shipping of powder and primers. You’ve probably noticed the increase in hazardous materials shipping fees, but that’s just a small part of the costs. We also faced greater local, state, and federal regulations that placed a difficult burden on retailers like us, who focus on serving the small reloader.

It was a hard decision to stop selling powder and primers because we have sold them for so long, and especially because several of us are avid reloaders ourselves. However, we will still offer bullets, casings, and pre-primed casings with the same friendly customer service our customers expect and deserve. We are also already going to work, expanding our selection of loaded ammunition to ensure we can be of help for shooters who enjoy every corner of the passion we all share.

there goes another one.  thank you government regulations.

But I have to ask, other firms manage to ship with no problems. I wonder if whomever bought Wideners was just eliminating the competition.

it was not the shipping part that was the problem.  they just passed the shipping haz mat fee to the customer.  the big problem was the storage of the powder and primers at their location.  government regulations kick in when you have large amounts of powder/primers located/stored at one location.   it sounds like they did not want to spend the money to upgrade their storage area to meet current government requirements and/or to go through the government inspections of location/business.

I bought from them a lot when they still offered local pick up. Guns, bullets, powder, primers, I would plan work in Johnson City on pick up days just so I'd make sure I could get there in time lol. Then they got bought out and cut guns and local pick up, and now powder and primers... It's sad to see
