What kind of guitar is that?

With a little research, it appears to be a French (Gypsy) Jazz style of guitar. They had non-typical sound holes positioned forward of the center of the body, had the fret board extending over the sound hole, used a broad saddle, had no pick guard, and used metal tailpieces. https://www.premierguitar.com/lessons/acoustic-lessons/django-gypsy-jazz-chords

It seems that they are similar to classic guitars.

Pic of weapon like I carried in 'Nam, 1967.  Wish I still had it.

I think you meant to show an A1 version. The A2 version didn't come to the Marine Corps until 1983 and to the Army in 1986. I was glad that I wasn't issued an M16 with the grenade launcher because it was one less item that I had to clean.

You're right, mine was the A1 version. This was the only pic I had available, but they're similar from a distance.

I hated the M14, because it was heavy, ammo heavy, kicked like a Missouri mule. When I was going thru the line getting weapons, they gave me a M16, thought I hit it lucky til I went down a bit further, then they gave me the M203. Put me right back in the heavy range + had to carry ammo for that too. I carried 400 rds in mags ( more in my pack ), 18 asst rds for the M203.  It did come in quite handy at times.

Oh, well, LOl.

On a side note  I had a chance to buy a M16 years ago, at a Clarkville gun show. Before the Feds changed the law. I had the money, but decided it was needed more elsewhere. I've regretted that ever since. You can still buy one, but the price is like buying a house.
