One of my great uncle's was in the signal corps and did some of that around Europe.

My Father was a tech sergeant, was at a lot of the famous battles but a day or so later to setup infrastructure. He was an amature photogapher and took hundreds of photos but very few while in Europe, most were when he was in England or in boot camp before shipping over. Growing up and seeing some of these photos and seeing a miniature Minox camera he owned I was sure he must have been a spy in the war.

It's difficult to see the face but it could easily be a flying fox.   There are 60 species of flying foxes around the world and they can have wingspans of around 6 feet.
