The VIS 35 was a product of soured relations between FN and the Polish government. Poland was buying FN produced BAR rifles, and FN was struggling to deliver the goods in expected quantities and time frames. The decision to adopt the FN produced Hipower had already been decided by this point; however, the unreliable service thus far steered the country another direction.

Poland turned to their Radom factory, deciding to manufacture the hipower themselves. The result is a pistol that functions internally like a Hipower yet resembles more of a 1911 style of JMB designed firearm. It has a single stack 8 round magazine, a slide stop lever, disassembly lever, and a decocker. The decocking feature was pushed heavily by the Polish cavalry. It has no functional safety other than the grip safety.

The Radom factory was captured by the Germans when they invaded Poland. They decided this was a good design and continued production at Radom under the supervision of Steyr. Despite the various inspection stamps and processes, the Germans neglected to consider guns being copied, i.e. identical serial numbers, and about one pistol was duplicated per day and smuggled out of the plant until it was finally discovered. 100 employees were rounded up with 50 being hanged on site and the rest sent to concentration camps.

That is a mighty fine collection you have of some classics!

Thank you sir! Eventually I want to have as many of the German side arms that were used as possible. I still lack a CZ27, FN 1922, Mauser HSC, Walther PP/PPK just to name the ones that I can think of off the top of my head. There's surely more. This is just my German stuff. I need a good Colt 1911A1 but $2500 is just hard to spend on a pistol.
