Teacher carry for Public k-12 schools

Recommended Posts

A co-worker's daughter just accepted a job teaching at a middle school that is about an hour from home. Since the best way to get there is all windy back road, he wants to get her a pistol. She has a CCW permit, but just got it with his gun.

What are the current standing on guns left in faculty cars on school grounds? What about concealed carry out of the car?

Thanks guys.

Written employee/employer policy will be the rule.  If none, one by law could possess the gun in the car, out of ordinary view and not handled on the property.  A private school by written policy may permit staff to carry on premises.

The law simply says she's OK to leave it secured out of sight in the car.

The school district's employment policy will probably say not allowed at all, but that can vary by district.

Getting caught violating that employment policy (if it exists for that school district) is not breaking a law, but it will almost certainly result in immediate termination of employment. Kind of like getting caught sleeping with the boss' wife. Not illegal, but bad for a career.
