Who still squirrel hunts?

Recommended Posts

I miss hunting fox squirrels,  when I was stationed at Ft Bragg I hunted them all the time.  Mostly redish gray ones, but they had black ones as well, it's just that I never seen one unless I only had my .270 on me.  Takes fewer of them to make a sandwich :dirty:

It's the only hunting I do now. My dad and I hunt with a black mouth curr.  Take tricked out 10/22's and shoot wolf match ammo. A lot of ribbing if you miss so we make sure it's our fault and not the gun or ammo. Hunting with a dog is just a walk in the woods with your buddies. Only way to hunt tree rats. We normally go from late December to the end of Febuary. You don't want any leaves on the trees hunting with dogs.

I've been out twice now and not seen one single squirrel.  Wish that wasn't the case, I am excited to try my hand at cleaning them...and cooking them.

They will be a lot easier to hunt once the leaves are off the trees.............JMHO

I love to hunt these tree rats here at home with my airgun. No tree rat is safe from 50-60 yds. in me and my neighbors Operation Squirrel Free Zone. I would love to take the ole shotguns out in the woods though if anyone has land near Gallatin or Hendersonville.
