Fell into an 11.4oz S&W 340PD

Visited an old Army buddy last week and ended up with this, a 11.4oz S&W 340pd.  I have some Buffalo Bore and Speer ammo on order that should allow me to shoot this without breaking my hand, as well as prevent flame cutting or cylinder face erosion.

The Gold Dot Short Barrels are probably my favorite load for it.  I’ve had good luck with Hornady Critical Defense in .357, too. Seems like those are both 125gr.

I’ve heard worries about heavier stuff jumping crimps.  I’ve never experienced that, but I believe it. It’s a handful of a pistol with full power .357.

I pocket carried that thing for years in a kydex Aholster.  It wasn’t good to the finish, but you couldn’t tell it was in my pocket.  I liked the Aholster because I could get a full firing grip on it when it was in my pocket and I didn’t need to readjust my grip upon drawing.  You can’t say that about many pocket pistols.

I really don’t feel a difference with an 11oz 342 compared to a 15oz 642 as long as they have the same 38spl loads. It is nice to have the 357 options.  It has been a long time since I’d fired a full powered magnum in a scandium j frame, but I lived to tell the tell.  I will admit though, I tend to like recoil.  Does 45 win mag in a derringer interest anyone?
