Ammo brass?

Recommended Posts

I have a bunch of assorted brass that came from a range here in town that closed up. I have probably almsot two 5 gallon pails of it and I am thinking about sitting down in spare time and going through the pails and seperating out all the different calibers into different cans. Now with that said, are there any calibers that would be wanted more than another for reloading. I figure it will give me something to do this winter when I get bored. I know the 22caliber is junk but just looking to find out what might be the more popular calibers..............

Look for the big bore pistol calibers like .500, 454, 45 colt, 44 mag etc.. No one cares about 9mm, way to common and it won't bring much, but .40 and 45 is a little better  Don't throw any away, you can take it to the scrap place and get a few bucks.  Even .22.  Look for .308 and .223 and sort between commercial and military brass.

good luck.  You never know when you may find a bunch of a rare caliber that is worth a lot.  Have a friend that buys 5 gallon buckets and got over 300 .500 s&w brass in a bucket.  Jackpot

Not much money in brass these days. Probably the only thing that will raise the price is a democrat in the White House.

To begin with this was an indoor range so won't be no rifle brass. Also I don't plan on selling the brass. once I get it sorted out I am going to give it to anyone here on TGO that wants to reload it since I don't reload but hate to see it go to waste if someone can use it. Also is there anyone here that reloads 380 Caliber ammo?

I reload 380, but am set for brass. I'm sure others here do as well.

357 magnum range brass is one that is rather hard to come by and pricey. I never understood why.

Being a wheel gun, people just dump the brass in a bag when reloading at the range. I am sure lots of them reload the brass too.

Seems to me brass is so plentiful at this time there's just not much of a market. Obama was good for brass sellers. On any given day at the range I could pick up a bunch. This glut will pass too.

Seems strange that a scrap yard wouldn't take your brass, there is always a market for most metals.  Cases are not the only use, there are many things made of brass.

Most metal prices are so depressed that many of the yards are just sitting on scrap, waiting for prices to increase before selling.  Eventually the yards are full of scrap waiting to be processed, and they start rejecting some metals due to lack of space or interest ...

Sounds like I need to go to some scrap yards to see if they have any cheap lead.

It's probably worth a try, but I doubt most of them are getting much lead in.  Wheel weights either have, or are moving away from lead, and a lot of the other sources of lead (old plumbing being removed, medical lead disposal, etc.) have pretty much run their course, or are being scooped up as it comes available by private buyers ...

Well since winter is not a good time for fishing bait orders so I will still probably sort it out and see what I come up with and it will still be free once I get it done.

bersa, I'll take the 9mm if no one else needs it. It'll give me something to do on cold, rainy days, LOL. Just send me a PM, Tks.
