East German Makarovs

Recommended Posts

I haven’t shared anything here in a while so let’s change that!

I recently had the opportunity to add these 2 to my collection. And I look forward to finding more as they are really growing on me!

I had read somewhere that these grips were what some were imported with but I cannot recall where I read that. I put some original German grips back on the 1960 after that photo was taken.

The thumb rest grip pictured is comfortable though.

I can only compare Bulgarian to East German. Function is smoother and tighter on the EGs I have used compared to the Bulgarians and when in unmolested condition the EG finish is nicer. Generally I like the size/weight/balance of the Mak as well as the fixed barrel. And I like the price points on them.

What caliber are they. I had a buddy that had one of them and he had 2 different barrels for his and he could shoot 9MM or 762x25 ammo in it. We use to go to the range and I would shoot my Tokarev and he would shoot his Makarov. I sold my Tok a few years back and justa  couple weeks ago I sold the last of the 762x25 ammo to a member here. I enjoyed shooting the Tok but as I got older it became a little much for my ability to hold it tight enough.  I think he sold his also for about the same reason a little later.

9mm Mak. I don’t find it to be bad at all in terms of recoil. Seems to me to be easier than 9mm Luger. However shooting a Polish P64 is a bit more exciting.

Well My Tok was a 762x25 and as I got older it became a handful for me to shoot and I sure hated selling it but wanted someone to have it that could enjoy it like I did and I didn't want to make it a Safe Queen.

I understand that! I have committed to myself to not have or keep safe queens. I either just won’t buy it or will sell or trade one if it becomes that.

You have much more guts than I do to make a statement like that. It would be a total lie from me. lol
