I get that it’s a military model, but on the civilian side, I think theyd be much better off going the other way with a 17 slide on a 19 frame.

Given that the grip is the hardest part to conceal this makes sense. Im not sure what the performance gain is for CCW purpose, but to each his own...

Longer sight radius. Technically slightly higher muzzle velocity but that’s not enough to matter.

However more and more people are coming around to MRDS mounted on pistols and that negates sight radius issue.

As much as I see of people carrying a G19 with a Surefire X300 mounted, a 17 length slide wouldn’t be sacrificing anything at all

Glock seems to have hired some of the product development people that Ruger could no longer afford to keep on retainer.  The folks who have made a living dreaming up crap no one wants or needs instead of designing the products everyone keeps asking for.  Like a single-stack Glock 19 sized handgun, or a Glock carbine.

People are seriously asking for those? I never hear those requests. There are so many carbine platforms that use Glock mags already, and no one I know wants a single stack 9 unless it's really on the small side.

I read/hear requests for those two things all the time.

I would be a Glock branded carbine done right in a heartbeat.

I think Glock takes user feedback and does the exact opposite.  For concealed carry the opposite would ideal as mentioned.  Not sure what the logic is on this because it's certainly not a capacity issue.

Considering the G19 is used by MARSOC/DEVGRU/SF, maybe some of those big guys wanted a full sized grip but the shorter slide for suppressor use and/or holster commonality ?

I’m really grasping at straws here though.

Maybe? I have fairly large hands and it's never been an issue for me personally. The holster issue is possible but seems like there are more 17 holsters than 19 holsters. Oh well, there's some reason we're not aware of.

I have pretty large hands and I have no problems whatsoever either.

I was referring to military inventory for holsters. The G19 has a NSN. They don’t use the G17 AFAIK.

Or maybe it’s just so Glock has something to show off for SHOT show. Who knows.

Why folks want same size gun with less capacity? Just for a bit thinner grip?

Bingo. Personally, that's something I wouldn't buy since I never had problems concealing a G19 sized pistol, but apparently there are quite a few people out there who feel that anything thicker than a LC9 on their belt will cause the world to end.

What I would like to see from Glock is a 10+1 single stack 45 ACP with the slimmer slide like the 30s/36/41 but I will be the lone dissenter and say I like this model.Full size grip frame, shorter slide means less weight and a faster draw stroke. It’s the exact concept as the Colt Commander.

Shorter slide and barrel but same sized grip frame and magazine capacity . That's kind of a rehashing of the Colt Government Model and  Combat Commander as being more whatever in a way isn't it?  I believe a G-19 with either a Pierce Grip+2 extension or a G-17  magazine would be a better value for the money.

As usual Glock missed this one. I like Glock but they are going to have to do something else if they want to stay competitive. Nearly every company has some sort of striker fired gun and if Glock doesn't adapt, they will continue to loose market share. If I want a 17 frame, I'll get a 17,34, or 17L and if I want a 19 slide I'll get a 19. It's pretty simple.
