Hello from Virginia!

I've been away from where I grew up in Sevierville, Tennessee since 1983, when a much younger me went and joined the Navy. I've retired from Uncle Sams canoe club back in '06, but worked at the same Navy base as a defense contractor, so that's how I ended up staying on the eastern shore of Virginia, but now I was starting to get the itch to come home to that area to retire, or semi-retire. I would like to hear from folks around the Sevierville, Seymour areas to see if the area is shooter friendly, if it's possible to buy 5-10 acres somewheres out far enough to stick a 100 yard casual range in and "shoot, or pee off of my back porch" without riling neighbors...

Maybe someone on here that's in those areas and is like minded can help me decide if a fella really can come home, so ta speak...

I know the place is blowed up with tourists year 'round now, not sure how to deal with that, was simpler back then when it was more seasonal.

Seymour (Blount County corner) mailing address. Assume shooter friendly, I hear gunfire from time to time. I am too residential to safely (though legal) to shoot.

I head over to the in-laws in South Knox county to shoot.

Rural Sevier or Blount County should fit your needs assuming you are willing to travel 20-30 minutes to the corner store.

I believe Sevier County still has lower property taxes than Blount.

Come on home!

That's encouraging to hear. I think the Mrs & I are going to take a working vacation down there this spring, and visit some realtors (and Buds, and Smokey Mountain Knife Works!)

Say, I remember the gun show scene was pretty good around that area, what with Knoxville having one once a month or so, are there any other's sprung up? Is there still a good flea market near Sevierville? Are there any organized shooting things going on? High Power or IDPA or maybe Bullseye?

I wouldn't want to become a hermit, just shooting at my own home range...

The area is reasonably shooter friendly as long as you own the property and your neighbors don't mind the noise.

There are very active pistol shooting leagues at ORSA.

Gun shows?  Meh. Only if you like paying way too much to walk around looking at the same overpriced stuff, most of which has little to do with guns.  The classifieds here on the other hand, will bankrupt you if you're not careful.
