Happy President's Day

For me, a paid holiday.

From Wiki

The federal holiday honoring Washington was originally implemented by an Act of Congressin 1879 for government offices in Washington(20 Stat. 277) and expanded in 1885 to include all federal offices (23 Stat. 516). As the first federal holiday to honor an American president, the holiday was celebrated on Washington's birthday under the Gregorian calendar, February 22.[24] On January 1, 1971, the federal holiday was shifted to the third Monday in February by the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.[25] This places it between February 15 and 21, which makes "Washington's Birthday" something of a misnomer, since it never occurs on Washington's actual birthday, February 22. (A rough analog of this phenomenon can be seen in Commonwealth realms, where the reigning monarch's official birthday is celebrated without regard to their actual date of birth.)

I wonder how much they teach about the father of our country in schools today?

Despite freeing his slaves, the simple fact of being a slave owner is not PC. Perhaps adding Lincoln to the mix helps balance PC?

I recommend Jeff Shaara's Rise to Rebellion and The Glorious Cause for historical Revolutionary War fiction.

A well done  mini series is Turn; Wasshington's Spies on Netflix.

My 4th grader brought home a fairly thorough and (IMO) age appropriate study guide for his test on the Revolutionary War.  It covered the high points fairly well.

The only thing we didn't care for was the characterization of Paul Revere's ride, which has been reasonably proven to not have occurred as portrayed by Longfellow. The nitty gritty details of such things can wait until high school or college.
