Justice Department to ban bump stocks

Consequently, current possessors of these devices would be required to surrender them, destroy them, or otherwise render them permanently inoperable upon the effective date of the final rule.

That's from the summary of the ruling linked above. This is what will tie it up in the courts for a while. The 2nd Amendment says we have the right to KEEP and bear arms. How can the government tell us that something that was legal yesterday is no longer legal, and we now have to forfeit them? If we are allowed to KEEP arms, how can the government come and TAKE them?

This was a long read.

I think it would have been simpler, shorter, and just as effective to put "we have decided to outlaw an accessory that will change NOTHING".

Unless I missed it I only saw the LV incident referenced when giving examples of it's mass killing power. Maybe I slept and forgot about others.

The shooting in Las Vegas was the first and only time a bump stock was supposedly used in a crime.

You forgot to mention the 5th Amendment, which this rule violates.
