Thompson Center Compass

I am thinking of buying a Thompson Center Compass in 30.06. Everything I see has excellent reviews, and the price is unbelievable. Has any one had experience with the Compass or other Thompson rifles?

Thompson makes fine rifles , however my customer service experience has been less than sterling. Not sure about now , but several years ago they would literally shut down for months at a time . Try and get something done during that time and you were screwed . It was bizarre at best.

I haven’t shot one, but it appears to be a decent deal for an American Made bolt action. Here is an article on how it came about, a review and a range test.

You might also want to compare the accuracies of the Ruger American. At $289 it appears to be a pretty good deal.

I know a while back Thompson ans S&W went through some "restructuring." Perhaps that was it?

A friend of mine has a couple of them and absolutely loves them. Accuracy on them is good, nothing spectacular but good for just about anything you for which you would use it. There are also spring kits available for the trigger which is a worth while improvement.

Dave, yes I have seen that; thank you. The reason I am leaning to the Thompson over the Ruger, or the Mossberg Patriot, is that the Thompson comes threaded. So adding a supressor later on would be easier than other models.

Not sure . They had one girl working in the office . I think her entire job consisted of answering the phone to say “welcome to Thompson center . No , we can’t help you with anything until x-month arrives and I’m the only one here right now “

In 2007 S&W purchased Thompson Center, in 2010 S&W closed the Thompson Center facility and moved everything to Springfield. So my WAG is that if you needed something there would be someone available.

I guess that’s probably about right . I had bought a rifle and it was missing a dead screw from wear the front sight was mounted . It took me months to get that damned screw.
