Bank America's Response Letter To Cancelation of BassPro Credit Card

Recommended Posts

After Bank of America's anti-Gun stand I decided to cancel my BassPro Credit Card with Bank of America.  This is the response I received today from Bank of America.  If you have a problem viewing this letter please let me know and I will try something else.

There’s a whole lotta meaningless fluff in there. I’ll give them credit for taking a stance, even if it is one I completely disagree with.

Not sure I agree with you there. They can't possibly have a positive impact. Much more likely to just piss people off. IMO, corporate political activism is almost always stupid. And stupid is always bad. "Shut up and sing" may be harsh, but it's not stupid.

BTW... I have a high limit card with BOA that I won't use. I'm not big on any credit cards these days. But as it stacks up now, my BOA card has the highest limit, but is about number 6 on the list for what actually gets used. Now, if the doc ever gives me two weeks to live, that sucker is coming out.

Like I said... stupid.

I don’t disagree. I hope they do suffer horribly for this decision. I may use them for my business account for the time being, but they’re a terrible company that behaves terribly and is deserving of terrible consequences. If they do begin to suffer the way I want them to, I hope they stand firm in their decision.

While corporate activism is often stupid, I still will support the right of any private entity to stake out a position and deal with the fallout that comes from that decision.

Folks have the right. Still doesn't require me to respect stupid actions. I don't feel that BOA is a terrible company, at least not from this. You have a corporate exec wasting her time on stupid things that hurt the company. That happened hundreds of times across the world while I was typing this post. It's one of those things corporate execs do. If it's a stupid enough mistake to cost the company enough, they will blow her ass out the door quicker that you can say virtue signal.

When she gets the axe and they reverse their actions, I may consider doing business with them again, but for now I'm out.  I have no problem with people (or corporations) having a stance, but when their actions are contrary or a detriment to our Constitution, I will vote with my feet, and $$.

BOA isn’t a terrible company because of this. They are a terrible company because of their overall business practices. They simultaneously make the case for government regulation with the way the operate to the public detriment and against government regulation with the way in which they buy the legislators and regulators who pretend to keep them in line.

From what I have heard, when Paulson did the forced loan thing in 2008(?) BofA was not only first in line, but has went back for seconds. Oddly, Fargo, with all their problems of late, was the first to pay back.

I would not bet against BofA being one of their guys recommending to Fat Bill to repeal Glass-Steagall, either.

The branch near where I lived in Vegas closed up their drive-thrus back in 2007, didn't fly national colors since 2011, and even removed the colors that were in the lobby in 2016. I had to give my name to go up to one of their cashiers to buy a roll of quarters for my laundry, and told the snooty little baggage that took my name where to go, how to get there, and chided her for daring to call such a thing "customer service".

Regions does me fine. They didn't give me a ration of crap when I pulled cash for my Anderson. When I was pulling money out of WF $600 in 20s per day, they didn't give me a problem about cashing it into 100's. THESE people know customer service proper.

Blah blah blah..mass shootings... blah blah blah...military style ... blah blah blah...people affected... blah blah blah...must do something...working with... blah blah blah...we can all agree

Same old script . Same old talking points . Same old result. And nothing about it will do anything other than keep guns out of the hands of the law abiding .

When liberals talk about gun control , they never mention going into the hood to get those guns from the criminals. It’s always to keep them away from the ex-military , ex-law enforcement officers, farmers , hunters and law abiding citizens who believe in their own right to protect themselves from would-be criminals .

Like I said... stupid.

You need to e very careful about what doctors tell you. I have been told not less than 7 times I would be dead in 24 hours or less and I am still here.

BOA just sent me a NO LIMIT  card Application in the mail the other day and I cut it up in small pieces, Placed it is the envelope they supplied with postage paid and sent it back to them. I have began reseaching other banks in my area in which to move my accounts.

I cut ties with BoA years ago because of their business practices.

I have a definite problem with BoA, the rest of the retailers just as I do with the gun control lobby.  The reason is that they are perpetuating the problem of gun violence by trying to force a solution that is devisive and won't work.

The experts I've read that seem credible to me don't talk about gun control.  They talk about reaching troubled students before they become homicidal.  Most gun violence is inner city black on black.  The experts that make sense to me say that rap music drives a lot of the violence and that efforts to help inner city youth understand that rap is a form of music and not describing real life wold help.  That, combined with teaching folks about handling conflict.

Instead of focusing on the types of solutions I just mentioned and working with the gun community rather than fighting it, I have no doubt that more progress can be made.

I hate BOA, but I’ve got 12 more years on my mortgage and it would not be cost effective to refinance now. I’ll bite the bullet and grit my teeth every month when I pay that bill.

Double up on payments when you can if for no other reason than being that much closer to debtfree

Years ago I worked for a company that paid their mileage reimbursement separately from my pay check. Their account was at BOA, and I liked to just cash that mileage check to have a little spending cash.

I would go to the drive-thru, and they would hand me an ink pad make me put a thumb print on the check. They would always say "If you open an account here, you don't have to do that."

Then one day, they said, "Sorry, the drive thru is for account holders only, you have to go inside." I go inside and they say, "we need your thumbprint. Oh, and if you are an account holder you don't have to do this."

Then one day I go inside and they say they have to take my picture when I cash that thumbprinted check, for security reasons. But, account holders don't have to do that.

The last time I have ever darkened their door, I went in, thumb and mug at the ready, and they told me there would be a $5 charge to cash it since I was not a member. I about lost it. I'm really surprised I didn't get escorted out by the police. I really made a stink and everybody in the bank was looking at me. The manager came out and told me that if I were an account holder I wouldn't have to do any of this. I told him "Why would I want to be a member of a bank that treated guests so badly?" I told him I wanted my full check amount in cash, or else I would spend the weekend on their sidewalk with a sign, and call the news company. Eventually he conceded and gave me the money, just to shut me up and get me out the door.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings in the least if Bank of Amerika went out of business and closed every location.
