A judge has extended the ban.

The judge also said Defense Distributed’s First Amendment concerns were “dwarfed” by the states’ safety considerations.

Cody was right.

Thing is, these files are already in the wild, so the point is moot.

That’s very true. You can tell them that but they won’t listen. I do enjoy that they are tipping their hand and showing their true colors. These folks have no concern or care for any of your rights at all.

This is just the first step in eventually making possession of the files criminal.  Same as possessing bootleg copyrighted material...only they get to spin it as a threat to society rather than someone downloading music or a movie.  Boiling frog, 1k cuts, ect.  Has to start somewhere.

If bootleg laws are any indication of effectiveness then we have nothing to worry about.

Yup.  I didn't say it made sense...they just want to write a book to throw at someone when the mood strikes.

That’s gonna require the government using a different method than the current one they are using to shut Cody Wilson down. The reason DD can’t publish them online is ITAR restrictions. They can (and do) sell thumb drives with all the files to domestic addresses. Pivoting yo attempting to make the files illegal to possess is gonna require an entirely different method of attack.

Not sure that is entirely true, current extension is due to Dem States argument which has nothing to do with export restrictions:

Quote

A group of 19 U.S. states and the District of Columbia sued the U.S. government in July, arguing that publishing the blueprints would allow criminals easy access to weapons. They also said the Trump administration had failed to explain why it settled the case.

Lasnik said the states have submitted sufficient evidence that they are likely to suffer “irreparable harm” if the blueprints are published. The judge also said Defense Distributed’s First Amendment concerns were “dwarfed” by the states’ safety considerations.

Gun control proponents are concerned the weapons made from 3-D printers will be untraceable, undetectable “ghost” firearms that pose a threat to global security. Some gun rights groups say the technology is expensive, the guns are unreliable and the threat is overblown. They also say undetectable guns wholly made of plastic are illegal in the United States.

The first case, which the Feds settled, was due to the ITAR, but this one, IMO, does not.

Back in 1965 when in Vocational School we made a .22 mag derringer for the assistant school superintend. The drafting class drew the prints for us.. Smooth bore two shot, using machine shop tools. Any good machinists can  manufacture guns, using cnc machines or older conventional machines. Polymer or steel. Gun smiths do it all the time. So what is the big deal over the 3D printed guns? 3D printers that use metal will be very expensive to use because having to melt and spray metal  carries some risks because melted metal is super hot. The Marines just made a concrete barracks using 3D printer. 3D printer mfgs should be a good stock to invest in.

Cody Wilson has been charged with the sexual assault of a 16 year old girl. I certainly hope this is not true but it definitely looks bad.

Looks like they have some evidence.  That being said, I’ll just emphasize 16 year old girl on “sugardaddymeet.com” and $500.

Well, they were going to nail him one way or another. Honestly surprised it wasn't suicide via round to back of the head. That or he'll end up dead after "resisting arrest."

Why would you say that? No one in law enforcement cares enough about his model stuff to give him a 2nd look; let alone kill him or even frame him. Of course with him being charged with sexual assault of a minor I’m sure that’s what he will claim.

Now if by “they” you mean the liberal left that thinks this non-sense will allow kids to start cranking out guns at home; maybe. :)

Sounds to me like him thinking he was a bigger deal than he is; might be why this girl rolled on him.

That is one thing that bugs me a bit, how is it on the guy to know someone is underage on a site like that, or say a bar or other establishment in which you must be at least 18 to be on/in?  Not saying in this case he didn't know, but some of those girls look way older than they are.

Well…. He probably shouldn’t be on a site like that. Especially if he thinks he is a “big deal” and is dealing with people that will obviously do anything for money. If the bartender serves them based on how old they think they look, and are wrong; they get arrested. If you are having sex with them, paid or not, and they are juveniles; you get arrested and get to be a registered sex offender the rest of your life. That’s incentive enough for most people to not do it.

Didn’t Cody ever watch “To Catch a Predator”? :wall:
