Wow, a pond. I guess they was a little dirty. Glad they fired good.

Yea, a very surprising find.  I know it was Garand ammo because of the clips.  There were a few that I pulled, worst ones, to check the powder,  but all were fine.  I scraped the loose corrosion off, and put them into the tumbler.  I still have one full clip, no worse for wear.

Back in the early 60's ordered a British 303 jungle carbine from one of the mail order catalogs and the British ammo for it. Man that thing would smack the daylights out of you, always wondered if it was because of the cordite loading. Traded it off because it was no fun to shoot,

And here I thought it was just mine.  My godfather gifted me a sporterized one, and it's recoil sure is stout. I keep it for sentimental reasons, but it's a safe queen.  It needs a elevator for the rear sight but haven't bothered to look for one.

The mark 5 {jungle} carbine was designed with "lightning" cuts on the receiver & bolt & through out , resulting in a guns  that looked great especially with the conical flash-hiding device. It's recoil persuaded no nation to choose it. India rejected it in 50's I'm told. My #4 Mk2 wears a"nancy pad" on visits to the Range..
