I know he's been considered country but Charloe Daniels used to be pretty muck rock back in his early days.

There was quite a few performers that went rock with roots in Country and some Country that got their roots from Rock & Roll and some country music stars whos music crossed over and became popular on R&R radio stations. George Jones had a song titled "The Race is On" crossed over from country to Rock and Roll back in the mid to late 60's. I'm sure there were many others but that one stuck with me cause I liked it back then.

Love almost all the listings above plus so many more, too many to list.  Probably my top five today would be the below, but it could change tomorrow.

1.  CCR

2.  Eagles

3.  Queen

4.  Marshall Tucker Band

5.  Charlie Daniels Band

They were good, there's no denying that, but The Rolling Stones is always mentioned in a discussion of the best band ever. I think they are the most overrated band ever.

The Stones are one of the greatest, but not the greatest.  Not by a long shot.  Their longevity and hits put them in top rankings but they have put out tons of crap over the years.  On the other hand their bluesy stuff is exceptional.  They are the most business savvy band in the business.

I think the Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Grateful Dead, and most certainly The Beatles did much more to advance rock and roll than The Rolling Stones.

I haven't seen Jimi Hendrix on anyone's list?

Not a band.  While he had the “Experience” behind him, he was the talent.  One of the greatest guitarists of all time, no doubt.

Also when did Jimi tour anywhere south of the Mason Dixon line? We all heard him but I don't know anyone who had the joy of seeing him.

According to the history books on him, Jimi Hendrix did 217 performances and only 8 of them was south of the Mason-Dixon Line three in Georgia and five in Florida. Some in Texas. I got to see him in 1969 at Woodstock and heard him do the greatest version of the National Anthem I have ever heard. Was in the middle of a medly of songs and all at once broke into the Anthem. I learned later that he did the Anthem at almost every show where he performed in the United States.  You can learn more about him on google.
