Possum Hollow, my new Favorite Bore Guide

Recommended Posts

If you are like me, then over the years you have bought and used many "New and Improved" cleaning accessories. In the "good old days" we just slopped Hoppe's #9 on a pad, stuffed it down the bore (typically from the muzzle with a steel rod), followed up with a bronze brush, a couple of dry pads to get the gunk out and a last sloppy Rem-Oil patch. Of course in those days a rifle that shot "Minute of Meat" was perfect and the oil and solvent we drizzled into the action just "slicked it up a bit".

Moving into the modern world where sub MOA rifles and long range hunting have become the "norm" we have had to find a better way to keep our favorite smoke pole in pristine condition. I've used about every bore guide out there trying to find one that was (1) easy to use, (2) efficient, and (3) inexpensive. Recently I read an article talking about a Delrin Bore Guide by Possum Hollow Products. Sounded simple, effective, and best of all, cheap. I contacted Eric at Possum Hollow to get the correct guide for my Browning and tried it out. Bingo! I'd finally found what I was looking for!

The guide is a simple machined Delrin tube that slips inside the action in place of the bolt and seals into the chamber with a turned extension and a captured O ring. The internal bore tapers down to match the barrel bore so there is almost perfect alignment and the O ring keeps unwanted solvent and oil from dripping into the action. Fit and finish is really good, it fits like a glove in the action and the O ring seal holds everything where it is supposed to be. I liked it so much I bought one for each rifle/caliber I own.  If you are looking for a simple solution to an old problem, this may be what you are looking for (and no, I'm not a Rep for the Company, just a retired Engineer that likes a machine that works as much as I hate one that doesn't).
