.30 Caliber Supressors

Recommended Posts

I am considering getting a .30 cal can for one of my hunting rifles.  Before I buy one I would like to test fire the rifle with and without the can.  I want to make sure there is enough of a reduction to justify the cost.  Anybody in the Nashville area have one and wouldn't mind me tagging along the next time they go shoot?

I am thinking about putting one on one of these two Kimber rifles.

You're welcome to shoot mine anytime.

What's the thread pitch on those Kimbers?

Not sure on the thread pitch.  Is there an easy way to determine thread pitch?

It's probably listed in the manual somewhere.  Typically I'd say it's 5/8x24 on a .30 cal.  But, that might not be a fair assumption on a Kimber. I know they did some in 7/16x28.

It’ll be enough to shoot with out hearing protection but that’s about it unless you go sub sonic but then you may run into bullet expansion issues. I hunt with my 6.8 AR suppressed 100% of the time due to the likleyhood of multiple shots on hogs but it’s an sbr and is balanced nicely with an OAL barrel length of about 17”. That short kimber may balance and Not feel awkward which maybe the ticket but definitely smart to try before you buy.

I tried it and decided to wear hear pro when I go with my bolt guns

I have a couple 30 cal suppressors, you are welcome to come with me and shoot some.   I have some pistol suppressors and a MG.  Bring some 9 or 45 an you can shoot the MG as much as you want :)

It was going to be for a hunting rifle. After seeing what I would have to invest for a good can I decided it was not worth it for something I was only going to shoot a couple times a year.   Decided to just put that money towards another gun.

I hear ya...I got a TiRant45m and its pretty cool but honestly since im not a hunter a 30cal can would probably just collect dust for me too....I wouldn't mind dabbling in hog hunting with my KS47...but that's what ear protection is for, right?

Got this in e-mail today. Seems like ATF is trying hard, but swamped and outdated.  The real culprit is the FBI.

Being a transplant from a restricted state, I only recently have used suppressors. On trying out my new Obsidian45 and Kraken9, I was let down a bit by the Speer 147gr I shot thru the Kraken.
It didn't seem any quieter than 124gr Nato though is suppose to be subsonic. I used my hearing protection (outdoor) for both.  On looking around, I've seen some comments the Speer is louder. Would like some recommendations of readily available 147 grain that y'all may have found to work best.
I've seen reviews that Hush 165 is the gold standard, and 158gr Fiocchi is good.  They are not easy to find, so hopefully something less exotic does the trick.

Last year I sold the .300 bulk upper I had on it to fund something else. It’s been sitting ever since and I’m ready to do something with it. I loved the novelty of shooting sub rounds through a suppressor on it but I was just that...novelty.

Are there any calibers it thee that could take advantage of the shorter barrel and suppressor better than the .300 blk?  I do still have some interest in running full power loads through it but would want a 9” barrel. I had a 10.5 last a time and always found myself wishing it was shorter.

If you had a complete SBR’d lower what would you do with it?
