Ruger Hawkeye Long Range Target

Back in January of 2018, Ruger announced the Hawkeye Long Range Target.  Until recently, it was only available in 300 win mag.   I don't necessarily need 300 win mag so it was nothing more than an extra gun if I ever got one.  But they just announced a couple of more calibers including a 6.5 creedmoor.

I would like to start trying my hand at some longer distance shooting and only have milsurps and a Ruger GSR that could shoot out that far.  I'm not going to scope any of them so I need a new rifle.   I love the Mauser based action of the 77s and shooting my GSR has only made me love it more.   So does anyone have one and what do you think?  Its less than the price of an RPR so I'd be saving money some money there that I could invest in better glass.

I don’t know anything about any of the Rugers, but there are two RPR’s in 6.5 & 6mm Creedmoore in Nashville for $850 & $950. I don’t know anything about either of them or the sellers; just saw the ads.

Well I couldn't take it anymore.   Picked up a used Vortex Viper from a buddy so I can shoot until I get some money for some real glass.  Got the gun Saturday night and put it all together Sunday.  It's going to be a couple of weeks before I can make it to the range but I love it so far.  I've got a Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle which is the same base action, but its crazy how different the two guns are.   The GSR has always had a very tight, not necessarily gritty but tight action.  This one is closer to how some really high end guns feel.  And the LRT has a two stage trigger and is way lighter than the GSR.   The GSR is great for the woods and what its made it for and I enjoyed it as my bench gun.  But this is a whole different world.  I'm excited.

The local range makes me qualify to go from 100 yards up to 600 yards so I've got some work to do but hopefully in a couple of months, I'll be putting together some midrange groups!

Sweet! I'm looking at the exact same rifle and glass combo. What height rings did you use and how much total upward adjustment are you getting with the 20 MOA rail?

This is the original Viper.   Pre-PST series so its a discontinued model.  It's max elevation adjustment is 65 MOA.   But like I said, this scope is temporary until I can afford a Nightforce to throw on top.  As for rings, These are low.   And you can see there is still plenty of room around the bell and just enough clearance for the bolt throw.

Well it took some time and a couple of other scopes but I finally made it up to a nightforce.  Took it out today and shot my best group thus far with the rifle.  I’ve shot it in a few Benchrest matches locally and I’ve shot a best of .61 moa in that. This is only 100 yards but tops my .61 moa.
