I was issued a HK USP .40 LEM for duty use. I attached a Surefire X200 using a Surefire adapter rail. I like it for duty use because I can keep my left hand free while searching buildings etc..

Do you keep the light on the handgun in the holster, or attach it when needed?

I have a holster for my Sig 226 that lets me keep my TLR-1 attached to it. The problem with not having a holster that will let you keep the light on the gun is that if you need to reholster, you must take the light off. This isn't good, as your attention is not focused where it needs to be.

For home defense, I believe a weapon mounted light is a big plus. It leaves your weak hand free to open doors and use a phone if necessary. If you are so inclined, you can have a hand held light as well for scanning while covering a target.

Excellent Point, Donnie!

I tried a light on my G23 and had a holster that would accommodate it, but after using it a while decided for me the light needs to be in my left hand. I can see both sides of the issue. You need to do what works for you.

My home has lights from one source or another that would sufficiently illuminate someone invading the sanctum. A light on the gun would be a hindrance to me. Just depends on your setup.

I think my previous link made some good points.

Looking back at my original post, I think I was more just curious as to what types of lights would be able to attach to such a rail... I have a Streamlight M3, and it's obviously not compatible. I have a couple handheld Surefire's, as well. Thanks...
