Medicare advice : Memphis

Anybody in the Memphis area know a good independent insurance company that specializes in medicare plans? I've tried searching the web, but can't seem to come up with the right search words to find what I'm looking for. I know pretty much what I want, but I also want to sit down with an agent who knows what they're doing to discuss specific concerns, companies and options.

Also, for those of you on medicare, any and all suggestions and advice will be welcome.

Thanks.

When I got an invitation from Farm Bureau in Murfreesboro for a Medicare seminar I went to see if I could get the info I needed to figure out what I needed. Excellent seminar with no pressure to buy from them. They even fed us beforehand. They have these workshops all over the place so check into one in Memphis. It was a great help for me to decide on what supplemental policy to get. I went with United Healthcare because there isn't a price increase each year due to age. I also got my drug plan through them with WellCare.

I haven't dug very deeply into this subject, as my wife is still working and doesn't plan to retire this year, but from her comments, that's probably going to be our choice as well.

Since her job has changed over to UHC, we've seen how they do business and treat customers. It's been very easy and pleasant...so far.

Another thing to consider is if you worked for the state or any local government entities. POMCO is a supplemental policy for Tennessee government employees and sometimes the institution you worked for will reimburse about $50 per month towards your premium. I worked for a county hospital for 30 years and was eligible for this because I am in the TCRS retirement program but local government didn't reimburse. State is a different matter though such as teachers. I went with UHC instead mainly because my wife is retired from Bridgestone and they reimburse through UHC plans.
