The Ohio-based anchor of the affordable pistol market is promising to break from their traditional mold and move into a more modern handgun offering.

Hi-Point, which is in the midst of a rebranding of sorts now some three years after their founders death, has few details of their new pistol set for release later this month, but has confirmed that it will include a threaded barrel and will have a standard capacity of larger than 10-rounds, both of which are a departure from their normal fare.

“This is not an old model with a few tweaks like the latest version of someone’s 1911,” said Shults Media, Hi-Point’s PR company. “This is an entirely new pistol of a more contemporary design and yet will retain Hi-Point’s affordable pricing, reliability, robust construction, accuracy and owner following lifetime warranty.”

Founded by Tom Deebin Mansfield, Ohio in 1993 during the federal assault weapons ban, the company’s first handgun model was the sub-$200 C-9, a simple yet reliable blowback action handgun with a single-stack 8-round capacity. The model is still in production todayin a number of finishes and, while Hi-Point offers magazines with a higher capacity than the basic 8-round as the AWB has long since expired, they are still single stacks. Likewise, the company has long shied away from production threaded barrel offerings even though the use of suppressors has expanded phenomenally in the past decade.

According to the most recent data available from federal regulators, Hi-Point, manufacturing as Strassels Machine in Mansfield, produced no less than 69,900 9mm pistols in 2016, a figure only bested in the same category by Glock, Ruger, Sig, S&W and SCCY.

I'm not a fan of the Hi-Point line, but I must admit, they go bang and are not functionally bad.  If they would but put a little more effort into the aesthetics of it, and maintain close to their price point it would eat into the market share of many other brands.

I have HP pistols and carbines in both 9mm and .45ACP.      Pistols are ugly but work fine, and I don't especially care if they get beat up.  Good for tackle box, etc.  Carbines are very fun to shoot.  My family and friends seem to like shooting them way more than ARs.

Just got a Ruger PC Carbine 9mm.   Takes Glock mags.  That's gonna be my carbine of choice.  Can't wait to shoot it.  I'm heading over to the Oak Ridge Sportsmen's Club this evening for new member orientation.

If Ruger brings out the PC Carbine in 45ACP I'll probably get that too, and lose the HP carbines.  If anyone would be interested in buying, please let me know.

Interesting to see if they come out with a more up to date platform.

My Hi-Point 380 became a "key holer"or was when I bought it (not sure it wasn't a bit as I did not know what Keyholing was until it got worse and asked around as to what was going on, it was bad by then).

Hi-Point said send it in, probably needed a new barrel. I didn't  want to spend the money to send it in partly cause I did not have a use for it (too big to carry, 380 AMMO is too expensive for target shooting). So, I used it as a trade in. That said, it shot reliably as far as function.

I am not knocking Hi-Point, I think for the money if you have a use (say as a vehicle or home defense or just want to shoot one for whatever reason - buy it).   However, I would go 9MM vs a 380.

I would consider buying the new model (9MM) if the new design comes out with something I could use and at a price like now of $109 to $129. (not buying a 9MM or 380 for just targets  - shoot 22LR for that).

I have no problem with HP.   I have owned a C9, twice.   Given the opportunity, I'd throw another on the back of the toilet.   I'm interested to see what they come out with.

There...fixed that for ya 😁  no reason to take up space in the safe for a $75 gun.

The five year old and two year old that are often in the house make that a little less than safe. Although I think the five year old is good.  The two year old definitely not.

Not terrible...for $200...I think with some different grips and screws she would improve in the looks department mightily...still a huge leap from the current design....don't know what person is buying a $200 [gun] to use with a suppressor...maybe some other kind of tacti-cool muzzle attachment though.
