Nashville, 1865

Recommended Posts

If it's accurate, I'm guessing the post Civil War aftermath in what was a massive battlefield, and cities that had been under Union occupation for a few years had a good bit to do with it.  Nashville was a mad house of crime in the occupation years for a variety of reasons, and I'm sure those enterprises didn't depart the city just because the war ended.

I was trying to find a scan or picture of the original but haven't been successful thus far.   Interesting note about the Nashville Dispatch.   It was a daily paper except Monday.   I don't know why but I find the except Monday part very interesting.

I found their listing at the Library of Congress but I don't see any December 1865 issues in the catalog. I would love to try and find this but I don't have the time right now to devote to it.

Could be because they were off on Sundays, since the paper was usually put together the day before so they could go out first thing in the morning.
