Not a happy outcome but who knows how much worse it could have been.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL) - Sheriff Jeff Cassidy told News Channel 11 a woman is dead after a shooting at a dentist office in Colonial Heights and the suspect is in the hospital.

According to Sheriff Cassidy, the husband went into the dentist office and shot his wife. The sheriff says a bystander, with a carry permit, shot the suspect and held him until authorities arrived.

The wife died from her injuries at a nearby hospital.

The sheriff says the suspect, whose name has not been released at this time, went into the office with the intentions of killing his wife.

The sheriff is calling the bystander a hero.

The suspect is currently being treated for gunshot wounds at a local hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

The names of the suspect and his wife have not been released at this time.

The shooting happened at Guy Dentistry located on Clinic Drive, near Colonial Heights Road.

Authorities told News Channel 11 the wife was an employee at the dentist office.

Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and troopers from Tennessee Highway Patrol are assisting the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and the Kingsport Police Department.

Our reporter, on the scene, says the closest business to the crime scene is a Region's Bank.

News Channel 11 is following this developing story. We'll post more details as soon as they become available and we'll have a live report beginning on the news at 5:00 p.m.

It's astonishing the amount of people who can't deal with breakups - that's my assumption in this case - in a mature manner.

I agree. Love or money, unfortunately people will take lives and ruin theirs and those around them over it.

The shooter probably would not have stopped with just his wife. Wife was just main target but had it not been for the permit holder stopping him we will never know but I am sure glad the permit holder stepped up and ended it. If more things like this happened it might make these idiots stop and think before they act. The sheriff is correct in calling the permit holder a hero for sure.........JMHO
