Honda Dash Computer

I have a similar readout on the dash display of my Pete (with much lower numbers! 😆😆) and what it is is a guage that shows current fuel consumption as MPG. So when you’re in the accelerator hard, you’re burning more fuel and the number drops. If you’re cruising easy on easy terrain, the gauge rises. It helps give you time feedback on your driving habits that can help you drive in a manner that allows more efficient fuel usage.

My Toyota SUV has something similar. It's horrifying to see it pegged to the left. Foot off the gas and your getting 60mpg for 5 seconds. I'd rather have this in my Accord. That has a trim light around the speedo that shows green to red depending on how heavy your footwork is.

Fuel consumption gauge is a common misconception.

It's actually a reverse fun-o-meter. The shorter it is, the more fun you're likely to be having.

I think that depends on your idea of fun.   There are some weirdos out there that think hypermiling is fun.
