Home renovation advice needed

Greetings from the cold socialist north!  My wife (Hereinafter referred to as Lady Radtekk) and I are moving to Tennessee in a few months.  We have entered in to a contract on a house in Jefferson City (actually about 2 miles out of town) and pending a satisfactory inspection Monday 4/12 we plan to close in late July.  Moving will be in late September/early October depending on a few things.  Sooner is impossible as my youngest daughter starts college in September and I told her I'd hang out for a couple of weeks after:)

So, as I said, inspection in a few days, hopefully all goes well or can be inexpensively resolved.  What I *DO* need is help with some minor renovations.  The linoleum floor in the kitchen is completely worn through.  The sub-floor is still there, but the linoleum is going to need to be removed (most likely) and replaced.  The bathroom also needs work.  We are keeping the tub, sink, and toilet (Lady Radtekk likes the color, a pale lavender) so we need to do pretty much everything else.  Paint, shower tile, probably floor, vanity, etc.

We are making a trip down in June, originally a house-hunting trip, but that is already done.  So now it's a "meet contractors and get estimates" trip.  Per the contract we have access prior to close, although obviously no work can be done until after that date.  I'm looking for recommendations for contractors who do the above work, in the area, willing to work with an out-of-state client.  We don't want anything fancy or exotic, it's a 50 year old house in need of updating, not a mansion in need of remodeling and decorating.

So if there's a member here with that kind of company, or someone knows a good contractor in the area, we'd like to talk, and set up a meeting in June.  Maybe I'm a little early, but better than being a little late:)  The work would need to be done any time between close in late July and occupancy in late September.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome from another expat yankee, fled Connecticut 25 years ago. I spent 30 plus years in all aspects of residential construction. Based on the age of the home you're buying, it's possible and even likely that the worn linoleum floor contains asbestos. You'd be better off not disturbing it and going over it with a new low profile floor ie: engineered hardwood, porcelain tile etc... You might want to be sure that any inspection tests for asbestos in ductwork, popcorn ceilings, flooring. Abatement can get expensive and your purchase price should reflect that. Good luck.
