Man, I don't miss California

Gettin' back to the earthquake topic, those of us living in the west end of the state are right on top of the New Madrid fault. Really kind of surprises me that it being one of the major fault lines in this country that its not more active than it is. Oh, we get a little shake now and then. But honestly, I can only remember two maybe three times I've ever actually felt something in my whole life.

I guess if a big one ever hits, Memphis will fold like a paper sack and the Mississippi river will get rerouted.

Yeah, the New Madrid fault does concern me a little. But after living up and down the left coast on and near various faults (and volcanic mountains) and riding out a few majors and countless minors I'm not extremely worried, possibly a little jaded. I'm out on the western edge of whats considered middle TN and I think the difference in crust and top layers here in the highland plateau vs the Mississippi river basin and surrounding low lands will result in a sharper shock here with less rolling. Soil liquefaction of the 'unconsolidated materials' that make up the west side of TN will probably be an issue for Memphis and those east to beyond Jackson. Then, as you stated, there's the river it's self. Rolling will seem to go on forever.

Happy I selected a limestone hill up out of potential floods.
