I do believe this is a new record

Recommended Posts

I just surpassed 50, yes fifty brown outs today. Thunderstorm over head even messed up my battery powered atomic clock (was odd seeing it zip the minute hand around about once every 20 seconds...got a video). It's been so bad I switched on my phone as a wifi hotspot and am running the important stuff off the solar battery bank. Can't imagine every brown out spanning the last 7 hours is due to individual tree/branches on wires or cars hitting poles. Am I wrong or does the grid seem ultra weak/susceptible here in TN? Gotta love MLEC. 🙄

Yeah, already lost a TV, a fridge and a stove since moving. Stove was new and warrantied.

I’ve never dealt with this in Tennessee, so maybe someone in the know can comment but…

I worked for a machine tool manufacturer. We had customers that would commonly have “issues” with CNC machines. In some areas the power companies guaranteed a certain amount of reliability or fluctuation. Several times I dealt with customers where we would contact the power company for a customer when we suspected fluctuations beyond the norm. They would either fix the problem or put meters on the lines to monitor the problem.

Have the local power company come out and run a test on your transformer and inlet lines.  Sometimes there are problems with the supply voltage, leakage, etc. which can be worsened by storms and routine surges.

I called the provider. They said I was not alone and recommended I shut off the main breaker and wait for them to call me when they fix it. I'm still waiting for that call, but things have stabilized, for now.

If the above were the case, a heck of a lot of squirrels committed suicide yesterday. I wonder how many squirrels that video poster has buried.
