Striper

Recommended Posts

I've been neglecting fishing for far too long.  Decided to get serious about striper.  This is my third morning out this week.  It's been a good week other than my pole breaking on Monday.  I've been able to boat a fish everyday I've been out this week.  These things are so much fun!

(Been having issues for a while posting from imgur, can't ever get the pic to imbed, but here is the link)

Wow! Any hints or pointers would be appreciated.

The most difficult part of striper fishing is locating them.  Think about where their food sources are.  Sonar is invaluable.  I use live shad, the bigger the better.  I run about 7 ft of leader with 3oz of weight above the leader, give or take for current and put my bait about 15 ft down.

WOW, nice fishing. I bank fish(no boat). I catch small blue gill and use them for bait. Caught a large mouth, I was fishing next to a guy that caught a stripe and a bass. The bluff at 7 Points is my spot, down low right on the water for yall that dont have a boat. I have fished the dam tail waters in the fall for stripes with top water lures.

We would camp at Pickwick lake's Tail Race campground years ago. Catfishing from the bank wasn't very good. In the evening we'd hit the boils below the dam using a 3/4 oz red jighead with a 6" plastic shad. Cast out to the boil, let sink for a few seconds then raise the rod a bit. A stripe was usually on and the fun began if it was a big one.  Longest I caught was 25 inches.
