Heads up, hunters: You can potentially contract tuberculosis from deer infected with the bacterial disease, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced.

A 77-year-old Michigan man was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 2017 after he was exposed to Mycobacterium bovis (M. bovis) – a mycobacterium that’s often found in cattle, bison, elk, and deer – while removing the intestines from an infected deer, the CDC said in a recent report.

Good reason to use latex gloves when field dressing.

The worst thing I ever had was a fungus infection in my lung from ...get this...working in the dirt. I was helping during flood cleanup in Missouri.  The doc swore I had TB or cancer. Just good to remember we are fragile creatures susceptible to all kinds of nasty stuff mother nature has floating around.

We call it brulliousis in cattle. All breeding age female cattle are slaughtered if infected, or that is the way it was done back 20 years ago. They would hot brand a B on their jaw to mark them for slaughter. Nothing new about it, been around as long as animals.
