Checking In

Recommended Posts

Just joined up and wanted to check in. I live in Mid Tn, a bit south of Nashville. US Navy Vet (Submarine Service for 8 years), Just joined Strategic Edge Range in Chapel Hill after my waiting period. Heading to Gunsite Academy in Arizona in Dec for the week long 250 pistol class. I reload and love .45's (have Colt, Dan Wesson, Les Baer, Springfield, etc). Also hog hunt in east Tennessee. Looking to retire next year so the wife and I can travel a bit and get into some competitive shooting as a hobby.

That about sums it up! Looking forward to learn from the experienced folks on here.

Best,

Gary

I'm a disagreeable old sort. I don't often do the "Welcome" for newbies.

But for a Waterlogged Submariner, I'll make and exception. lol I have a cousin that was in the sub service for several years. I can't quote his base and unit for you, but I learned a few things from him. Did a tour of an old WWII sub years ago and gained a whole new perspective.

I know the boats are much larger now, but still have to admire anyone who can go down in them. I'm claustrophobic, and I'd have to be strapped down and sedated to do it.

Thank you for your service to this nation, and a big welcome to the funny farm.

Welcome aboard Gary. Old "dry-land" Sailor here....long ago.

Old Gunsite Grad as well, also long ago LOL (250 & 260). Good on you for attending. It was my first professional training and took me down a path I am fortunate to have traveled.

Looking forward to your AAR on your class, if you'd be kind enough to share with us.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Went in the Navy right out of High School. They told me submariners make more money......hazard pay. Joined and never looked back. I did a few West Pac Deployments so I did get to "see the world" but only when we hit port! The question I always get is how do you deal with being submerged for long periods in cramped qtrs. They do many tests before they assign you to subs to ensure you are not claustrophobic believe me! I love .45's as I had to carry one for years when I stood topside watch on the sub. Got to know it quite well!

Looking forward to Gunsite very much. Been waiting a year to go.

Thanks Again!
