Rabbit Hunting Near Chattanooga?

Recommended Posts

is there any place I could hunt rabbits near chattanooga? I'm willing to go to a private farm with the owners permission ofcourse. Im kinda brand new to hunting and not really sure what to do. I went to the TWRA public land a few times the past few days and didn't see a single rabbit. Ideally I'd like to go someplace I could wait them out since I don't have a dog.

Jacob I would suggest visiting your LGS and see if they have a bulletin board or know of a rabbit hunter. Also  check on TNDeer Forum, I am not a member of it, but look from time to time. If you are new to hunting, rabbits are not the easiest to hunt, it is much easier with a pack of beagles and a hunting party of 4 or so. Since you are new to hunting, I would suggest safety, safety, safety!! Squirrels are usually the first game hunted by most people. Just know what your target is and what is beyond it, as you are responsible for where it goes. I am not a Facebook fan, but I suppose you could find some like minded hunters on there. Have fun, good luck. And remember it is not about the killing of the game, it is the hunt itself, seeing all of God's creation come to life.

With no snow on the ground, finding rabbit sign is tough but not impossible. Look for overgrown fence rows, blackberry brambles, brushy creek banks, brush piles, etc. Most anything that provides overhead cover should be suspect. Another good place to look is along railroad beds. Early mornings are best as the rabbits will be trying to sun themselves after a cold night. Keep the sun at your back and move slow and quiet with pauses every few yards. If you're constantly on the move, the rabbit may try to 'wait you out' and let you walk right on by. Pausing makes them nervous and they may break cover giving you a shot. Good luck and safe hunting.
