TN handgun permit help

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

just recently took my carry class on Jan 25th. On the 26th of Jan I visited the DMV and payed my money. On the 28th of Jan I went and did my fingerprints. On Feb 5th, I checked and I had 4 green check marks. Yesterday, after not receiving my carry permit in the mail yet, I got only and looked again, and my background check went from approved as of February 5th, to pending again. Any real reason behind this, or has anyone ever seen this happen before? I am a Firefighter/Paramedic and I have never had even a speeding ticket in my life. Attached is a picture of the current screen. Thanks in advance.

I too had all green marks but now the background check changed back to pending. I turned in my application on the 29th of Jan and on 7th of Feb all check marks were green. I actually thought I was going to get the permit at the most, a week later. I'm guessing it going back to pending is part of the process? Maybe?

Martkus,

I called the Handgun Unit today, and they said that it was due to them incorporating a second background check into the process over the weekend. They said they got the fingerprint section done, now they are doing a second background check looking for “other things.” The lady stated they are pretty backed up, but gave me a projected time of approximately 2 weeks before the process would be complete. I will check back in 2 weeks and see if anything has changed. I’m glad I am not the only person experiencing this problem. I will update if anything changes on my end. Thanks for replying.

just speculating here, but maybe with the addition of the new online only carry permit, they have taken extra measures into making sure the background checks are more thorough. Maybe this is the reason for the additional background check. I have asked many people who already have their permits about the background check going from completed and back to pending, and no one else has experienced this.

Thank you for the update. I think you're right, the new law has made it easier to acquire the carry permit so an extensive background might be in order. I'm retired military and totally agree with this new procedure. So, a few more weeks it is.

Again, I really appreciate the information.
