Has that ownership really been contested, though?  I don't think anybody is actually in love with China or anything, they've just been filling a void we left because that's how nature works.

This isn't a decision I'm too firm about one way or the other, but a "taking my ball and going home" move isn't going to fix the WHO one bit, and it's certainly not going to teach China any kind of lesson.  It's just more of the knee jerk reaction that's passing for decision making these days.

As an arm of the UN, I don’t support us funding it on general principles. I fully believe we should withdraw from the UN and expel it from our shores as an actively hostile entity and threat to US interests and national security.

The UN is demonstrably as useless as teats on a boar hog!

Not quite. It is extraordinarily effective at transferring wealth from the poor and middle class in the first world to the wealthy in the third world.

I want him to resist the urge to turn everything into the "Donald Trump is Awesome" show.  However, I understand that's wishful thinking, and he's genetically incapable of servant leadership rooted in humility.  But things like this infuriate me:

With all the chaos, it's a time for leadership to step forward, admitting the path out of this will be imperfect and bumpy while we try to do our best...not spend time insulting reporters when all he has to do is reject the premise of a question and move on.

The irony in all his hot air is, I was *this close* to voting for him come November since the sky had indeed not fallen yet.  The Democrats deserve zero reward for their indecision married to a lack of vision, and the Libertarian Party has yet to get any candidates into consideration who have a baseline of experience for me to respect enough.  But seeing his "leadership" in a time of crisis snap back to his incessant need for praise instead of a serious and apolitical response has me returning my vote back into the category of writing someone in just to have it recorded.

I agree. That’s why I have said I don’t like him as a person. But he is a great President. We wanted a President that wasn’t a politician. That’s exactly what we got and prior to this, a booming economy to go along with it. I know you don’t think that economy would have continued, but he is a proven perform so far.

I wish he would stop using Twitter. I wish he would quit making statements like “The Presidents power is absolute!” I wish he wouldn’t bait the idiots at the press conferences. But none of those things have any impact…none. I don’t know if he will be reelected, I can only pray that happens. I don’t understand how anyone, even a liberal, could let their hatred of Trump cause them to vote for any of the Democrat candidates we have now. And voting for anyone other than a Republican or Democrat is senseless. But then I never thought Americans would come that close to running a socialist.

We are getting ready to either take an even bigger hit on our economy, kill a bunch of Americans, or both. All Americans should be concerned with that instead of dragging up old tweets from Trump. We all know he said those things. We all know he sometimes says stupid things; and we know why.

I do not understand as well.

Which...is exactly how ALL the REPUBLICANS and ALL the DEMOCRATS want you think.

Certainly. It’s one of the few things they can agree is the truth. In my lifetime Perot in 92 was the only third-party candidate close to having a chance. But he got scared and backed out. I’m not saying its not possible with the right candidate, but we haven’t seen anything close to that.

Well...I don't realistically see any third party presidential candidate as being a real contender, at least anytime soon. I wish this wasn't the case. If third party candidates could provide a real threat, then perhaps the R's and the D's would find that they have an immediate and acute increase in hearing sensitivity.

I don't fault anyone for voting third party. Sure, it may as well be "throwing a vote away", etc etc etc. I've heard it all. But the truth that if more people (vastly more, I admit) voted 100% for someone that was a good candidate rather than "the less bad guy", we'd be much better off.

Just gotta get everyone to do it at the same time.

I do wonder the prospects of a Republican running as a third party and thus splitting the Republican vote between those that hate Trump and those that love him.

 They couldn’t run as a republican. But why would a republican want to see a Democrat elected over Trump?

Read that again.

A Republican running as a third party. Example (just an example, with no reason to suspect anything as such would happen) Romney running as an Independent because he thinks he can beat Trump for the Presidency.

If he couldn’t win in his own parties primary against Trump; he couldn’t beat him in an election.

Justin Amash is considering running. I'd vote for him over Trump or Biden.

I would generally agree with this statement but there is a small flaw in it. The way our political parties work, they reward extremism and employee purity tests. The country isn’t split evenly between Republicans and Democrats. You increasingly have the Republicans on one end, the Democrats on the other, and then a whole mess of folks bigger than either of those other two groups stuck in the middle. It wouldn’t be completely out of the realm of possibilities for the right person to come in and gather up those people under the umbrella of “those other folks are bloody lunatics!”

I meant all he’d do is split the republican vote. Some jackass tries this nearly every election. Even democrats are smarter than that!

Maybe. I didn't think Trump could beat Clinton in the last election.

Well...someone who can out-tweet Trump. At least he spelled everything right and used complete sentences.

I wish for that day. Candidate D and Candidate R both show themselves to be despicable and then Candidate I comes in as a reasonable alternative and secure enough of the "non-voters" to win.

Opposition to authoritarianism doesn’t make one a Democrat. It makes one a believer in the individuals rights and liberties acknowledged and enumerated in the constitution.

I agree. I can think of two Democrats that could probably give Trump a run for his money. But they aren’t running….yet. Gun control would be a major stumbling block for any democrat wanting that middle ground.

We have derailed this thread but I had to laugh at Amash being called a democrat. That might be most factually wrong statement I've ever read on this forum. Even 15 seconds worth of research would have revealed this.

  • opposes abortion
  • voted to repeal Obamacare
  • Introduced an amendment that would require a balanced budget
  • pro 2nd amendment- he was a founding member of the 2nd Amendment caucus.
  • routinely speaks out against NSA surveillance programs
  • "I follow a set of principles. I follow the Constitution. And that's what I base my votes on. Limited government, economic freedom, and individual liberty." Justin Amash

Sounds like such a liberal..... If people would be honest with themselves they would probably love this guy as president.
