Hey guys I live in Tennessee for about 4 years now , and been sport shooting for about 2 years, just got so tired of paper targets , always see on YouTube all this guys just pulling up in the middle of a wooded area with their pickups setting up targets and start shooting . What are the laws in Tennessee about doing that or where it’ll be allowed to do so?

They are laws local to your county or city. Most cities have laws against discharging a firearm in the city limits. Noise laws, and reckless conduct laws could also come into play depending on the situation.  As a former Police Officer I would recommend you go talk to one of the Command Officers at the HQ of whatever department would respond to a shots fired, or illegal shooting call. You could call, but you would probably just talk to a civilian dispatcher or clerk.

If you go on someone else’s property you would have to have their permission to shoot.

I keep saying we need to all get together and buy a piece of property 50 yards wide and 1000 yards long. :)

and flat, not in Davidson County!

My daughter has horses and boards them on a man's farm in Rockvale. Someone let loose with a pistol, last week, and the horse she was cleaning it feet on, liked to step on her. She was huffed off big time.

No problem shooting in Rutherford county, that I know of. Been doing it, in my back yard, for 40 years. Do have a good backstop.

Problem is I live in Hendersonville and can’t do it in my back yard ... gotta make me a shooting buddy that live where you can 😉

That's what I do anymore. But I have to drive to Illinois to do it.  😥

Just got off the phone with a deputy from Sumner county sheriff’s office they said as long as it’s outside of city limits and being done safely there are no ordinances about shooting

Sniff.... God Bless Tennessee... You don't know how good you've got it down here!
