How powerful is a CZ 257, .223?

Hi all,

My father gifted a CZ 257, .233 American to my son. He's 16 years old and we shoot at the range together. I'm familiar with .22 (rifles & hand guns), .38 & .45 handguns and my favorite is an old 30-06 rifle. What what kind of kick does a 257 in comparison? What would it be used for other than target shooting? We'll take it out once I get ammo, but I'm curious if it'll be really satisfying like shooting with a 30-06 or a little on the mild side like a .22 rifle. Thanks!

Just for clarity, do you have a .223 caliber rifle or a .257 caliber rifle?

I believe that he has a CZ 527 chambered in .223.  If that is correct, 223 is a mild round.  It's definitely more than a 22 but its nowhere near your 30-06.

This.

Considerably more powerful than .22LR, considerably less powerful than .30-06. Useful for small game up to deer with good bullets and shot placement.

You find the kick of a 30-06 satisfying? 🙃

The .223 is a small, high velocity round that was designed for the military to kill people. But the actual result was that it killed less people and left more seriously wounded and disabled. It's the most common round for the AR-15. It’s an inhumane hunting round, but many continue to use it because its cheap. It’s high velocity and flat trajectory, coupled with a low cost make it a very good target round out to about 300 yards (some claim 600). It has a lot more kick than a .22, but far less than a 30-06.
