.22LR Optic Vortex Copperhead 4-12x44 vs Nikon Rimfire

Recommended Posts

My Ruger American should be in by next Wednesday so I'm looking at scopes for it. I've got a good Vortex Copperhead in 4-12X44 I got from Joe Bob's while on sale. But I'm also liking the 150 BDC reticle in the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire. If I go that route I'll be getting it in the 3-9X40.

The gun will be used for under 150 yard shots, while most the shots at or around 50 yards. The ammo will most likely be the CCI Stingers because that's what I use for shooting the wild hogs over bait on the lease.

Need some opinions between these two or if you got a recommendation on other scopes in the $150 price range let me know

Your Vortex should be more than enough scope for your new .22.  If you're dead set on getting a new scope, remember that Nikon is getting out of the scope business so if you have issues with the scope, you probably won't be able to get any warranty work out of them.

I've got a Nikon I can make you deal on if you decide that's the one you want.  I just took one off a 10/22 that does not serve my purpose (I shoot mainly from a bench) and going with a fine cross hair scope of some type.

I forgot that about Nikon, I believe I'll just put that Vortex on and try it out. The manual says with a 50 yard zero on a .22lr that the hashmark's are 60, 90, 120 and 140. But dont say what type of ammo they based that on. I use mostly hyper velocity but will use the standard velocity stuff for squirrels and other things. Just have to shoot it at different ranges and see where it's hitting.

I have both a vortex diamondback rimfire and a Nikon p-rimfire on two separate 10/22s. I’d take the Vortex all day every day over the Nikon. The Nikon looks good and glass is pretty clear but the knobs are cheap and the whole thing feels loose. The Nikon is actually my second one as the first one came with a stripped screw on the turret. Sent it back in and they sent me a brand new one so CS was good, but still just think the Vortex is a much better scope for the money
