Press upgrade?

Recommended Posts

So, here i am in wyoming. I had to run into town to buy a tire (f@#$ you, sage brush! ) and I run into an old buddy. Long story short, after a few tacos & more than a few margaritas he offers to sell me his Forster Co Ax for $150. Kinda couldn't turn it down since it's never even been mounted.......

I'm coming off a Lee single stage that's done everything I've ever needed for the last 10+years.

Is there anything i need to know about this rascal that's radically different? Do i need to replace dies, shell holder's etc?

Fantastic press.

From my reading on various forums, current dies will work but you will need the die blocks or whatever they are called specific to the Forster press since the dies just slide in/out, they don't screw into the top brace.  Makes changing calibers easy from what I've read.

Nice press, it will be a fine replacement for a standard single stage press.  You shouldn't need anything extra right off the bat, it doesn't need special adapters for the dies or any shell holders either, but there are a few upgrades that will make it better.  I'd use it as is for a bit before buying upgrades though, unless you're just into spending money.

So I am hearing you got your buddy drunk and robbed him blind. 🤣

So whatchya doing with the old press???????

Drunks will be drunks! 🤣

I'll probably keep the lee setup for a specific caliber & maybe invest in one of those switcheroo mounting plate thingies, so I can change from one press to the other. I'll probably dedicate the Lee for .45-70 since all my dies are perfectly setup for it & I only have one load I use. Everything else I play around with, but that I leave alone.

There's not a better single stage made than the Forster.

It should treat you well on some of the wildcat stuff you like to load.

If you see Blake out there tell him we said hey and he can come back anytime...

Nah, he ain’t coming back. If anything he’s only going further out into nowhere.

What are you chasing out in Wyoming? Elk, antelope...???

Yep.

The are 4 of us this year with 3 antelope & 5 elk tags between us! Tough hunting though. We're at the tail end of the goat migration & it's too damn warm for the elk to be out of the high country. 64° here today 😫

I have a Forster Co-ax press I've had a few yrs. Best move I've made. Any die will work fine, but you will need to use the Forster lock rings.

I gave $300 for mine.

You'll love it, congrats, & good luck on your hunt.
