Be Ready To Us It

Recommended Posts

Just watched a news conference on the Church shooting, on Jan 3, in Texas. The pastor was killed and another wounded. The Sherriff said there were 2 members in attendance, carrying, and the suspect disarmed the pastor and shot him with his own gun.

When asked by a reporter what he what advice he would give others, concerning church safety and security the Sherriff stated he didn't want to second guess anyone in this church shooting, but he said, "If your going to pack a gun you had better be ready

to use it." Good advice, IMO.

I will add, do it  with as much determination as one can bring himself too. You are in a fight for your life when you present your weapon guys.

The DA suggested we pay to have a uniformed on duty LE for our services.  $25 bucks a hour and well worth it.  removes the members and the Church from liability if you have to go hands on or worse.

Under the law of agency, in no way does hiring someone for the job eliminate potential liability.  Lawyers are disgustingly creative. In this case, defensive response to an attack might be more professionally handled, but liability exposure is not extinguished.  If the SHTF, litigation WILL follow!

We are not hiring him. We are paying the county to have him there.

45guy, 25 an hour is a bargain. Last time I checked, years ago, around Mid TN it is flat rate 100.00 per hr and lots of bond and liability ins must be provided.  Plus must use off duty officers. That was several years ago. For our church just labor cost for 3 hrs on Sunday was 300.00 and bond and insurance was very expensive.  We were a church of 220 nd we simply could not afford armed security at our congregation.

Ours are on duty, we are just paying them to be there instead of somewhere else.  That is what the DA recommended.
