While heavily based on one, it actually isn’t. I made the same mistake when I first saw it.

Fine pistols they are.  Regardless, one would claim a USGI 1911 as a carry gun not produced since they were born.  They stopped making those in 1945.

Just for fun, I’m going with a Gary Powers special - High Standard HD-M/S.

Fun fact - while these were delivered in 1944 - there are still a bunch of them in use. The combination of a liquid charge with a baffle wipe made coupled with a slide lock made it unbelievably quiet.

I'm having a hard time finding a gun that wasn't offered after 88 that I would actually carry.

This Walther P88 is the closest I've come. I didn't know about these until I this thread was made and I started googling.

Image result for walther p88

That's the point of the thread.   Do some research and find something you never knew existed.   It's fun.

Wow. I've never seen that. I bet it's easy to get some nasty "slide" bite on that.

I've never touched one so I can't say for certain.  But I believe that the top half rides inside the bottom half so that probably helps to alleviate some of the possibility for slide bite.
