which knife to choose

Recommended Posts

Are there any woodcarving pros here? I'm new to this and want to pick up a new knife. I understand that to each his own and with experience I will choose a knife that suits me. But for starters, maybe there's a universal option for small projects? While researching this topic, I stopped at morakniv carving knives. I noticed that this company only deals with knives. Or should I look at knives from another company?

I've got a bunch of Mora knives, and they're great high carbon knives that are pretty easy to sharpen.

When it comes to other carving knives for specialized stuff like spoons, bowls, etc - I've had good success with some of the BeaverCraft products. Their kits are a pretty inexpensive way to dip your toe in the water - and will last into the future if you find you enjoy the hobby.

Don't forget a good strop.
