Remington 700 Bolt

Recommended Posts

I need a new Bolt for my Remington 700 in 308cal. It had a two piece PP&G Bolt in it, but dumb ass me knocked it off my gun bench and right onto the concrete floor were I didn't have any mats down just incase I did drop something, it hit right on the Handle and broke. I contacted a smith in Cumberland City that said he could do it, but covid hit and I never heard back from him so I could drop it off fir him to do. Is there any good rifle smiths around middle TN. or with in a reasonable driving distance of the Nashville area. Thanks for any information.

I thought about that, but it can't be re-welded, I would rather have a one piece Bolt from PP&G so I won't have that problem ever again. If they were to be able to weld it I would still need to make sure the "timing" is right when you operate the bolt. Thanks for posting that link, but I'm going to try to find someone to just fit me a new one piece bolt.

Buy a bolt and borrow a set of go/no go headspace gauges. You might luck out and not need a gunsmith. If it doesn’t headspace properly, then you need a gunsmith or machinist.

I thougt about that, but I might as well let someone who has all those tools to do the job. I'm just looking for a good rifle smith somewhere in TN. so I don't have to ship it out to have it done, if there aren't any smiths around here to do the job, I'll either send it off to be done, or have it broken apart and a new action installed. This is a custom built gun by RITTEN PRECISION out of Louisiana, he's no longer building anymore, and this is a $4000 gun.

Well I replaced it my self. Bought a new one piece PTG Bolt, and a set of Go-No Go gauges and all I had to do was a little polishing on the Bolt Lugs and I got it to fit. Took a couple of hrs. and it works with the Gauges. Now all I need is to test fire it.
